or people who repair watches? I was going through some old boxes and I have found a collection of mainsprings of various sizes. My grandfather,in addition to being an ore boat Captain on the Great Lakes, was a watchmaker. Wondering if anyone could make some use of these.

I'm a part time watchmaker. If the springs are blue steel they are likely to be set after being stored compressed after all these years. If they are white alloy they will be fresh as brand new. I would be interested in any watchmaking parts, tools, etc.

I would like to find a jeweler that cleans watches. the ones I meet now are primarily involved with electronic watches. I have a 14K Movado self-winding, but there's resistance built-up on the pivots so it doesn't keep the spring tight enough to keep the watch running on time. But I prefer it to the other watches that I have that use batteries.

Some are in envelopes marked alloy and others don't specify. I'll see what else I can find.

Shoot me your address and I'll mail you a package.

Yes, I had hoped to find some more stuff with my relatives but this was all I could come up with. I think most of the springs are the kind you said would probably not hold their tension but I figured I would send them anyway. I hope some of it proves useful. If not. well nothing lost.[:)]

I thank you very much sir. I checked most of them and they all appear useable. They must have been stored properly. I feel sure I'll use them all. I'm constantly buying watch parts and had another box of mainsprings that came the same day. I went to leave feedback for them and it took me a while to figure out where the other box came from. I'll be happy to reimburse you for the shipping if you want.
    Thanks again.

I'm glad they are usable. My grandfather would get a kick out of knowing they went to someone who had a purpose for them. I had meant to send them much sooner but they got set aside and I forgot about them. I found them in a shoebox while I was looking for boxes to ship my GAW items in. I figured I might as well send them when I went to mail the other stuff. Don't worry about shipping. I'm just glad you have a use for them.[:)]
