The muffler is dying on my 2003 Dodge Dakota V8. Looking about having a cat back dual system installed. Muffler suggestions? Local shop recomends Magnaflo's. Want better peformance and something that sounds good but don't want it crazy loud. What are you guys using?

Put Magnaflo on 93 Silverado, in about 07. Still rumbling nicely when I finally let it go in 16. Did raise noise level in Cockpit, but not too much.

Magnaflow is good stuff. Gives a nice low rumble without being obnoxious like some of the Flowmaster systems. I like Flowmaster too but for the proper application.

The noise level can be a problem. The wife will not operate my truck since I put on my SS catback. Its throaty and will increase performance. Generally a reciprocal intake upgrade will help...

That's a bad thing? [:D] No offence. My SO has never even sat in the drivers seat for 17 years. Yeah, the truck is still mint [;)]
After market exhaust- intake and tuner made my 7.3 way better in power and mileage.
MBRP exhaust has held up well in Salt City NJ
Airaid intake gets thumbs up too
Edge Evolution tuner added HP/torque and a nice gauge pkg.

I just put a Flowmaster on my 2014 F150. Love it, but yes, it is considerably louder inside the cab. Flowmaster makes a quieter model, though, so I wouldn't say that Flowmaster systems are "obnoxious". I put the intermediate loud version in my truck.

Magnaflo is the other alternative...they also make "obnoxious" loud models, so just be careful with what you select. Generally companies make "loud, louder, and loudest" series of pipes.

Oh by the way, I am quieting the cab with Dynapad.

I put Flowmasters on the El Camino, but there is no cat on it.I tell everyone that its bark is worse than its bite.

My mother in law was left with her husbands Ram 1500, 5.9l gas, when he passed. It needed an exhaust. We installed a Gibson full stainless exhaust. Sounds great, no drone.

Gibson makes some nice pick up exhaust systems too.

I can't help with the Magnaflo/Flowmaster decision, but will say don't let the shop use any pre-bent pipe made by Walker.
$50+- ( want to say it was more but not sure) for a tailpipe for my 79 Wagoneer and the piece of crap rotted out in less than four years.

If they bend any pipe in house make sure they use 16 or, preferably, 14 gauge Aluminized pipe.

Flowmasters on the Cummins. Throaty, but I am half deaf and leave the windows up. I do notice folks taking a look at my truck long before it gets to them. It isn't noisy inside

I went with Magnaflow on my Silverado. Just make sure you take it all the way back to the catalitic converters and not to the "Y" pipe or it just defeats the purpose of having duals.

I went with the stainless steel Magnaflow muffler that has an X pipe built in and Gibson stainless steel exhaust pipes that have mandrel-bends that exit behind the right side rear wheel.

I sell both Flowmaster and Magnaflow to muffler shops. If you buy a kit from either place make sure the shop you're going to will install outside bought kits first. Some won't do it(like taking your own eggs to Denny's to be cooked). If you're going to install it yourself be aware it's not easy on your back on the ground. MOST good muffler shops(not Midas or meineke) can build you a system for less money but they usually use aluminized tubing where Magnaflow kits are all stainless....MOST muffler shops use 16 gauge tubing in size 2" and smaller and 14 gauge in 2 1/4"-3".

Flowmaster will have more inside cab drone if you use 2 chamber 40 Series design. If you go 3 chamber or what they call 50 series you don't get the drone(bothers some and not others) I personally use an 18" body Magnaflow on my 4.6L Tundra and love it. Many kits use 16 gauge stainless mandrel bent tubing. Magnaflow is Lifetime warranty and made in USA. Beware there are Chinese knockoffs of both Magnaflow and Flowmaster. They are half the cost but they are not as well made...Magnaflow uses spun lava rock (crushed and spun like Cotton candy rock wool) for sound control. The knockoffs sometimes use fiberglass or worse. Flowmaster has no packing inside.
