New carry gun opinions wanted

I havent bought a new carry gun in years, like almost 20 years since I bought a gun for carry.

I generaly don't keep up with whats hot and whats not in the handgun world so I'm limited in the knowledge dept.

I do have a couple things I want to stay with, requirments if you will,

1. Semi auto
2. 10rd capacity or larger
3. Durable enough to double as a door pouch gun.
4. Priced in the $500-$800 range

Looks are important but not more important than function, sorry I have a problem with ugly guns [:D]

The gun will see more duty in the door pouch of my truck than it will see holstered duty.

I like a .40S&W only because my current gun (Llama) is easy to shoot and accurate but I do not have a cal or cartridge favorite. The chambering should be able to handle anything from mean critters to drug crazied adults hell bent on causing me harm.

When I get to the states in a couple weeks the first thing on my list of things to do is purchase a new gun. The last time I was there my Llama became damaged and parts are not available nor is the gun worth getting fixed, it is going to be retired.

I need something simple, easy to use, can take some abuse, not a pretty show piece but one that can handle the elements. Again I'm not hooked on .40S&W, I'm open to anything that will do the job.

you'll get 20 different answers all saying each pistol is the best, go to a gun show and pick up and feel each one, see which one feels best in your hand, then buy the best you can afford, doesn't have to be the best on the market, whichever one feels the best for the money you have to spend. just my 2 cents.................

Thats sorta how I wound up with that damn Llama [V]

I guess what I'm looking for is direction, of course I will check out guns that advice is given on but I won't be buying soley on what others say.

I will give the Llama credit though, it has seen severe duty, been abused, don't think I cleaned it once since I bought it, it's gone bang every time ect ect. My biggest complaint with it is it's cheap, the safety hasnt worked in years so cocked and locked has been out of the question.

I need another workhorse but one that is of better quality AND WITH A SAFETY THAT WORKS!! [:D]

Hell even though they are as ugly as Janet Reno nekkid I have been considering a Glock [B)]

I know many will say no, but I happen to like the SA XD/XDm series quite well.

Everything falls into line with what you are looking for, including price range. I have more of them than I really need![:0][;)]

Glockk 30 fits all the requirements. It is a .45acp though.

CZ75, 9mm, 17rds, reliable as anything, $450ish NIB, accurate as hell, and comfy.

Too big for carry, but if I needed a truck gun, that's my #1 pick.

If you need a possible carry gun, Glock 23/27 would be the pick. Still in your .40S&W, compact, reliable, accurate, $500+/-.

CZ P O1 would be nice to check out and like stated above everyone has a opinion. Go to a range and rent and try several different ones and go from there. Shoot what you can afford to feed and pratice and pratice and don't just brag you have a CCW and then you don't pratice.

Some people don't like IDPA but it's fun to watch and they will help you learn how to react and move.

Where I shoot Members are charged 5.00 to rent a weapon and shoot it and return it and get another one and so on. You have to buy their ammo for insurance propose

Do you have any shooting friends that you can go with, we let any friend try ours so they can see the differences in each platform. You would be surprised what you can learn from friends or teach them while having fun[:D][:0]

For years I was torn between a higher capacity SA and a 357 mag 6 shot revolver for carry. I finally went with a Ruger KP95 since it fit my hand and shot OK for me. That's for going to town carry. On the farm is split between a 22lr pistol and a 357 revolver depending on the season(squirrel or deer).

Yup, it's going to be your $$ that's being spent, so rent/borrow etc. a few and try them before you buy them. There are several out there that'll fit your requirements.

    If you must have .40, SIG 229, 12 + 1 capacity.
Or any SIG in any other calibre.

Glock, CZ or Sig. I have them all, and they are all excellent guns... but in your stated scenario, a Glock 23 in .40 would be my choice. Light and easily concealable if you want, and will easily withstand some banging around in a door pocket. 13 round mag, under $600.

Stoger [Beretta] Couger. I have one in 9mm and I have zero complaints. With Win. Silvertips it stays within the 1 to 1.5 inch mark at 25 yards. Price is hard to beat too. [;)]

Bersa Thunder Conceal Carry model has a mag of 9+1 capacity...should barely meet your mins.

The regular Bersa Thunder is 7+1, but very good looking and highly accurate and dependable. I've carried it in the woods, and it is quite rugged. Positive multiple safeties, too. These Bersas will run you less than $400.00.

Otherwise, how about a Commander style 1911? The Desert Eagle 1911C fits the bill, for about $700.00. Check them out, there are a few listed on GB right now. They only hold 8+1 with factory mags, but you can get mags which are 10 round and fit normally. Just like any other 1911.

All of these guns are very good looking, and ACCURATE.

I was not a fan of glocks until I started shooting them. Ugly guns..... but mine have been 100% reliable for 10's of thousands of rounds. They can also be found used for extremely reasonable prices.

SA XD's are ugly too, but good guns.

Been shooting my pistols alot lately.

My Beretta 92FS is currently my most reliable.

Looks like it's time to invest in all new 1911 mags. 2 out of my 6 are causing nose dive slide locks mid mag.

Go buy this police trade in $370 Sig 226 - 9mm, so I don't have too:

Bidding on 2 compact Glocks right now.

Some deals on used Sigs 9 & 40:

I recently got a Kel-tec P-11. 9mm 10+1 standard. You can get 12 round mags flush with the bottom of the gun and even 20 and 30 rounders from pro-mag. If you can find one used, you can get the same gun in .40 S&W. No safety, 10 lb. trigger, DAO. Great little gun.

IMO you already have the perfect gun for that--the Ruger Vaquero you bought from Doug Wilson--you are in bear country and that gun can handle any of the hopped up .45 Colt loads Buffalo Bore makes.

But you said you want a Semi auto so here is my suggestion--get a used Ruger P94 in .40 S&W. It's got a decent capacity mag. Sad to say but it's not Mayberry anymore--even in MT and I'm not leaving some expensive gun in the truck pouch to get ripped off. The Ruger is built like a tank and they go bang everytime and if it does get ripped off you won't be out more than $400. If you don't like the look of the Ruger, you can pick up used Glocks & Beretta's all day long for under $500 that would make suitable truck guns.
