60 boxes three hours :(

I missed out, went by Wally's and found out they got 60 boxes 9mm in and sold them all even with the 6 box per customer limit in three hours. I guess if every customer maxed out 6 that was only ten people.

I called my guy at the Wally closer to the house, get this he said "I'm showing that we are receiving THREE (3) BOXES OF 9MM tonight" What??!! three boxes are you pooping me? One store gets 60 and one gets 3? I have to wonder if it is sales volume or the guy ordering the same as back in the day? I reckon before long when people buy a new gun and can not get ammo for it without paying the ridiculous mark ups gun sales should slow down.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I fail to understand why everyone is in panic buying mode? Someone is constricting the supply to keep prices high and I suspect the manufacturers. Just break out the reloader and load your own for awhile.

I've had a couple small shops tell me that revolver sales have slowed down because everyone knows how hard it is to find ammo right now. The 9mm and .40S&W willl show up,like at your stores, but .38spl and .357 rarely do.

Even with the high demand, Wally World isn't overcharging customers ... a couple weeks ago I bought 20 boxes of 9mm Blazer Brass for $8.96 each.

Most Walmart suppliers do not ship directly to the store. They ship to a Walmart distribution center (there are 42 of these around the USA). The distribution center, in turn, fills trucks meant to be delivered to individual stores.

The supplier isn't going to partially fill 42 orders when he can completely fill 39 orders, partially fill 1 order, and leave two orders unfilled. While that doesn't seem "fair" the Walmart system means that the supplier gets paid 100% on the 39 orders, gets penalized a little on the 40th order, and gets penalized a lot on the 41st and 42nd order.

So, considering the shortage of ammo to begin with, and the supplier's attempt to fill the orders in order to be paid as much as possible, it is completely plausible that your region's distribution center had a short order and they're trying to "spread the wealth" among their stores.

Understood makes sense, only problem is spreading the wealth is not 60 in one store and 3 in another :)

I just bought 11 boxes of .223 rem UMC for 9.47 per box at Wally World. Must have been good timing, and the price I thought was not bad at all.

This is BS......I'm a regular hoarder, as I buy a couple hundred rounds a month to offset my range shooting and build up my stockpile, etc. And these Obama fearing quasi-revolutionist tea baggers are putting my hobby out to pasture. Utter horse ploop.

$9.47 per 20 .223 remingtons is what they're going for at our Wal-Mart, I usually buy all two or three boxes they have left by the time I get out of work lately.

If you consider that one store may have been allocated 60 boxes and then there was only three boxes left, it would go to the next store.

The Walmart distribution system is fairly complex and doesn't always make sense. As a supplier, I can tell you that we scratch our heads trying to figure out what they are going to order from us - and we have access to their daily sales of our products nationwide.

Thanks for the input Spaniel but this particular Wally ALWAYS gets less. I went once and he had 6 boxes of 9 and 6 40S&W while the dorchester rd store had dozens of boxes. That is why assumed it may have been a stocking thing with store volume playing into it.

Can't provide an answer on that... sorry.

The possibility exists that they've got different distribution centers and as such, different procurement managers. Moreover, store managers can override whether a product is traited (reordered) or not.

We're constantly going through the system and talking to our buyer when we find that a store manager has untraited our product. The store managers aren't supposed to go off the planogram.

Prices are only high at mom and pop shops. Wal Mart still has the same prices as always.

I am not sure everyone is in full blown panic mode. But I am pretty sure people are just trying to get a little ahead of what they use to keep them going.

Hopefully everyone will be well overstocked and then Ammo co. will catch up and then we can have a huge surplus of ammo and we can see some of the sells from back in the day. $3.99 9mm, $4.99 .38, $6.99 .40 and $7.99 .357mag....

I think it's US (gun owners ) who are continuing the "panic" mentality.
we're so worried we won't be able to shoot that we scarf up every box available.
I'm guilty of doing it, most of us probably are.
now, when i go into the Ace hardware I dont even go near the ammo section (and they have everything except 380).
I have enough to shoot for 6 months now, and it'll all be over soon, Right?[?][B)][xx(]

Wal-mart does not receive ammo via regular distribution center shipments. Each store places order through Remington,Maveric,etc.. for ammo to be delivered to their store. If your store is out repeatedly talk only with the dept manager about it. He or she is the only ones that do anything about it.

I don't want to start a war of words and wisdom, but BHALE maybe my point was missed, when you have someone who walks into walmart and buys every box of ammo they have, it really makes it hard for the next guy (me) to go and buy 1 or 2 boxes of ammo, I AM NOT A HOARDER!!!! and I won't be a hoarder, I'm not that paranoid, I do have some ammo of 1 caliber or another but, not of a third caliber which I can't get because of someone walking out of walmart with 20 boxes of that caliber tucked under they're arm.............THAT IS THE POINT I'M MAKING!!! did I get my point across this time BHALE?[:o)][:o)][:o)][:o)]

Some of us shoot alot of ammo, 20 boxes is only 1000 rds which equates to about 3 trips to the range max for me. Thats a 2 months, at most, supply of ammo. I'll buy out every piece of ammo I can find at a reasonable price, if you miss out because I bought it first, tough luck. We live in a capitolist country, not a socialist one (although the powers that be seem to want to change that). It's not my responsibility to buy less so that you can get some.

    I actually left 3 boxes!
I've never been too into 9mm ... but then Kansas finally repealed the class III ban passed in 1986.

Probably just like you, I stopped in many many times just to find empty shelves ... I was stunned to see any at all, and to find enough ammo for my son and I to shoot all day ... well, what can I say? These guys get hungry!

Both Federal & Winchester just received large contracts from the military for ammo so at least with those two companies there might be shortages. I do understand the panic buying as folks are fearful of microstamping bills(which NONE have passed to date) that would hinder them and for SHTF reasons. But sad to say this gun owners are sometimes their own worst enemies as we have bought up all the ammo so fast some gun stores have really gotten unscrupulous with the pricing--their store & they can do as they please but if I came across one that is gouging I would walk out--to me gouging would be $40 a box for 50 rounds of 9mm for example.
