"True Grit" remake due in December

The classic John Wayne movie "True Grit" has been remade and will be released on Christmas day of this year. It stars Jeff Bridges as "Rooster" Cogburn, Matt Damon as LeBoeuf and Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney.

Bridges did a great job as "Wild Bill" Hickok but I don't think anyone can ever fill "Duke's" shoes. Still, it may be a good movie in its own right.

Trailer and info here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1403865/

The trailer looks pretty good with Mattie picking up a Colt Second Model Dragoon. [:p]

what do they think they can add to the performance that isn't already there? This is Hollywood trying to get some cheap money off the reputation of a classic film. Too lazy to come up with a new story again.

I'd like to see a remake of Sgt. York. With today's special effects I think we would get a much better idea of what he actually went through and did on the battle field.

Blah Blah blah!! A great story can be told again and again!! There is only one John Wayne.......
Hey!! It's a Western!!!!! They all pretty much follow the same story line! Good Guys vs. Bad guys, Horse thieves, bank/stage holdups, Shooting and killing, drinking and cards, and NO cyber crap!!!!

Spider I guess I'm about the only person who thought Jeff Bridges did a bad job in Wild Bill--didn't care for it. Seems all Hollywood does is remakes these days--hopefully it won't be so bad that the Duke would be rolling over in his grave--I might see it if I see a few more trailers. Technically the Duke made remakes too--Rio Bravo was remade into El Dorado which was remade into Rio Lobo. Not sure about Jeff but his old man was a member of Handgun Control Inc and his brother is an anti--but so are so many of the actors out there-not as many Robert Stacks & Tom Sellecks as I would like but what can ya do-they're actors[:p] Supposedly this movie follows the book more than the movie--I have read the book so will see how it turns out. The actor Barry Pepper is playing Ned Pepper in the movie lol.

I saw the trailer for True Grit and I might go see it but I will let it stand on it's own and not compare it to John Waynes version.

One of the few good movies Wayne made, in my opinion. Most of his stuff was hammed up, over the top kitsch, but True Grit was a fantastic movie.

I'm generally suspicious of remakes and particularly any movie with Matt Damon, who I really dislike, but have from time to time been surprised. I might not go see it in the show, but will be happy to get it on DVD when it comes out.

    So who plays the girl?

I have low expectations, would be interested how much current PC is injected to the film or removed - like Cogburn's comments about not working for a woman. Can't wait for Cogburn to say "Since it would be wrong for me to kill you I aim to take you to Fort Smith to be given a jury trial of your peers and subsequent appeals after which you may or may not be sentenced to life" and hear Ned Pepper respond "I call that bold talk for a visually challenged overserved individual". That's the best way to do it. Judge it on its own merit and not compare it with any other version.

For example, 1962's "Cape Fear" was a great movie starring Robert Mitchum. The 1991 remake with Robert De Niro was great as well.

The worst part of the original "True Grit" was Glen Campbell. God, what horrible acting. Whoever chose him to be in that movie (or any movie) should be "run out of town on a rail".

Definately like the hardware being used in it-at least it's not all 4 3/4" SAA's & Winchester Model '92's--nice to have some variety.
