range trip yesterday

went to the the local range yesterday here in Ky(knob creek gun range). Took the savage tactical 25-06 and my friend had his savage tactical in .308 and he also brought his ruger 1 in 22-250. we have been rolling our own for about six months now because thats really the only way we can afford to shoot the bigger calibers. i took 4 boxes for me and he had just as many or more. after a few 5 shot groups at 100 yards to see where our loads were hitting we moved it back to 300 and was consistently hitting 12 ounce aluminum cans that we filled with water. Then that got too easy so wwe looked throught thye scopes and found 4" steel spinning targets at 450+ yards(not real sure on the exact distance but i believe 450 is a conservative guess). proir to this ive never shot much passed 200 yards so when i let er fly at the steel target and drilled it well lets just say i was pumped! I know its not that far compared to some of you guys on here but i was just amazed that i could even get close to it let alone hit it! of course all shooting was done off of rear bag and bipod.

I shot the .204 friday. I was shooting old out of date 16.9oz bottles of green tea. Some off brand that was a freebie. Tasted awful. I saved them to shoot. I was at 250 yards. Grass in the field was too high to scoot all the way back. Those bottles would explode and sometimes shoot into the air. Alot more fun than punching paper. Just wish the barrel did'nt heat up so fast. After about 6 shots you would have to let it cool. This is why I need a second target rifle.
does your 204 have a heavy barrel?

Everyone needs multi rifles. I have more than I care to carry to the range. While one is cooling down you can be shooting another. (Tell wife that is Y you NEED so many).

sounds like good shooting to me. once you get confedent at that range, add another hundred yards, and so on. took me with my 338 lupua about a month of shooting every day to work myself out to shoot a mile, its all about building confedence in yourself. and remember don't rush the shot, you may have to wait a min. or two before you get the perfect shot and wind conditions at a mile. if you can hit 450, with a 25-06 you should easily stetch that cal. out to 1400 yards

No, it does not. I wish I would have gotten one with the heavy barrel.

I have more guns. Just none that I shoot from the distances that I do with the .204.
