I would not insult Dyson vacuums.

I bought mine on sale before I moved into my house. I let my mother use it directly after her Electrolux vacuum. You would not believe how much the Dyson got after the Electrolux.

She immediately bought one just like mine.

    We already have 3 vacuums.
1 Kenmore canister. Works fine. Just have to pull that dang can around.
1 House vacuum. She HAD to have this one. Except that long hose is a pain in the but to lug around. Not anymore convienent.
1 Hoover bagless. It's more convienet, but common...three perfectly good vacuums. She don't even do half the vacuuming.

I ain't telling her about this.

    "Luxury bagless vacuum.
Dyson vacuums get the most attention in reviews, but in measured testing, Dyson doesn't significantly outperform others when it comes to cleaning carpet and bare floors. The newest Dyson vacuum is the DC17 Animal, and the latest coverage says this new model is an improvement over earlier Dyson vacs, with better suction. Many remark that it's also a lot easier to push and pull, but at 20 pounds, it's still fairly heavy. This model comes with a powered handtool for agitating pet hair out of upholstery. Dyson has now added a five-year warranty to new purchases -- a move probably meant to assuage some concerns in reviews about long-term durability. Though it is expensive, many happy owners say the Dyson DC17 is worth the premium. (compare prices) "

It is true that if you test a Dyson against other vacuums when they are brand new they are not significantly more powerful. However, most vacs route the dirt and junk you pick up off the floor through the impeller that generates the suction. Since the impeller is plastic, the dirt and grit wears on it over time and the tolerances get worse and worse as the impeller gets beat up and worn. This leads to diminishing suction over time. Dyson vacs do not route the dirt thru the impeller and hold up much better over time. I have had many vacs in my life but the Dyson units impress me more than anything else I have seen. $299 is a steal for one of these units.

The hilarity of men, on a gun site, arguing about vacuum cleaners is not lost on me.
