Old song? I would have to say "Amazing Grace"

Sort of recent song? Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American"

Edelweiss from the 'Sound of Music'. It never fails to bring a tear or 10.

That's a great song. But IMO Alan Jackson is one of the few people who have done covers of other artist originals, and did it BETTER. And George Jones's version was HORRIBLE.
For my song, I think "Green Grass & High Tides" by the Outlaws.

    It's a new song:
    If You're Reading This
    by Tim McGraw
    quote:
    If you're reading this
    My Mommas sittin there
Looks like I only got a one way ticket over here
    Sure wish I
Could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids

    I'm laying down my gun
    I'm hanging up boots
I'm up here with God and we're both watching over you

    [Chorus]
    So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
    And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed
    That it would go
    And if you're reading this
    I'm already home

    If you're reading this
    Half way around the would
    I won't be there
To see the birth of our little girl
I hope she looks like you
I hope she fight like me
Stand up for the innocent and weak

    I'm laying down my gun
    I'm hanging up boots
Tell dad I don't regret that I followed in his shoes

    [Chorus]
    So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
    And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
    And if you're reading this
    I'm already home

    If you're reading this
There's going to come a day
    When you'll move on
    And find some one else
    And that's ok
    Just remember this
    I'm in a better place
    Where soldiers live in peace
    And angels sing amazing grace

    [Chorus]
    So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
    And know my soul
Is where my Momma always prayed that it would go
    And if you're reading this
    I'm already home.

Hey Hey What Can I Do

Wanna tell you about the girl i love
    My she looks so fine
She's the only one that i been dreamin' of
Maybe someday she will be all mine
I wanna tell her that i love her so
I thrill with her every touch
I need to tell her she's the only one i really love

I got a woman, wanna ball all day
I got a woman, she won't be true, no
I got a woman, stay drunk all the time
I said i got a little woman and she won't be true

Sunday morning when we go down to church
See the menfolk standin' in line
I said they come to pray to the lord
With my little girl, looks so fine
In the evening when the sun is sinkin' low
Everybody's with the one they love
I walk the town, keep a-searchin' all around
Lookin' for my street corner girl

I got a woman, wanna ball all day
I got a woman, she won't be true, no no
I got a woman, stay drunk all the time
I said i got a little woman and she won't be true

In the bars, with the men who play guitars
Singin', drinkin' and rememberin' the times
My little lover does a midnight shift
She balled around all the time
I guess there's just one thing a-left for me to do
Gonna pack my bags and move on my way
Cause i got a worried mind
Sharin' what i thought was mine
Gonna leave her where the guitars play

I got a woman, she won't be true, no no
I got a woman, wanna ball all day
I got a woman, stay drunk all the time
I got a little woman and she won't be true

(hey hey what can i do)

I said she won't be true

(hey hey, what can i say?)

Hey hey, what can i do
I got a woman, she won't be true
    Lord, hear what i say
I got a woman, wanna ball all day

; I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
    Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

    I said to that undertaker
    Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see her go

    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
    Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave

    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
    Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All of my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone

    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
    Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
    Hear the angels sing along

    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
    Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
    Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

"Wildfire" by Michael Martin Murphy... I cry every time I hear it ..[V]

She comes down from Yellow Mountain
On a dark, flat land she rides
On a pony she named Wildfire
With a whirlwind by her side
    On a cold Nebraska night

Oh, they say she died one winter
When there came a killing frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
    Busted down its stall
In a blizzard he was lost

    She ran calling Wildfire [x3]
By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot-owl howling by my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me, I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go

    We'll be riding Wildfire [x3]

    On Wildfire we're gonna ride
    Gonna leave sodbustin' behind
Get these hard times right on out of our minds
    Riding Wildfire

I like CCR's BAD MOON RISING!!

DOUG, I asked about that very song last month! I also asked about his motorcycle song but no one replied. Something about a black leather jacket and a tattoo saying Mother I love you. Tom

PS If you remember those, you're older that dirt!! T

    Brothers in arms- Dire Straits

    These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
    And always will be
    Some day youll return to
    Your valleys and your farms
    And youll no longer burn
    To be brothers in arms

    Through these fields of destruction
    Baptisms of fire
    Ive watched all your suffering
    As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
    In the fear and alarm
    You did not desert me
    My brothers in arms

    Theres so many different worlds
    So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the suns gone to hell
    And the moons riding high
    Let me bid you farewell
    Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
    Were fools to make war
    On our brothers in arm

Are you goin' to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love of mine

Tell her to make me a cambric shirt, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Without no seams nor needlework, then she'll be a true love of mine

Tell her to find me an acre of land, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Between the salt water and the sea strand, then she'll be a true love of mine

Tell her to reap it in a sickle of leather, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
And to gather it all in a bunch of heather, then she'll be a true love of mine

Are you goin' to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love of mine

"Desperado" by the Eagles, when I was younger my mom and I used to sing it driving down the road, we made a great duet. Now she is 78 and her "running lights" are starting to dim. Song reminds me alot of myself in youth.
