I have not been around the SR556, but I ordered a SR762 off the auction side for a friend, when they first came out. Very impressive rifle, I think we got it for $1800 and change, a buy, looking at todays prices.

I wonder if it is as accurate as the mini-14's when they first came out???

Now all they need to do is offer the 5.56 in a 7 twist and it would be a good rifle.

The plain sr556 was already stupid heavy. I hope this isn't heavier

I don't see the point. Is it cheaper to buy a this with a .556 barrel and a .300 blk barrel than it would be to buy a lower and two separate complete uppers?

You wouldn't be able to swap the barrel and keep the same zero on the rear sight, so why not just swap entire uppers?

Even if you take it down to 3 pieces, you're only dropping a couple inches off the disassembled OAL.

Can anybody tell me what the advantage would be to having this?

*I think if they can expand their takedown line to the 77 series rifles they might have something.

But if I did, I imagine the point of a new product being sold would be to make me a happy owner of some of them there stock certificates.

AR15's already "takedown" with two pins. I just don't see the value at the price. You can buy two complete lowers and two uppers in different calibers and have two rifles for the price of the Ruger.

All kidding aside, other than the "Isn't this a neat trick!?" factor, I do not see the value either.

I would enjoy having a pair of piston AR's in 5.56 and 7.62 though.

Of course, nothing much sells at suggested retail. I have a hard time imagining anyone paying full list for that gun.

There has been a "kit" on the market for some time called the Dolos AR15 Removable Barrel System (DARBS). It allows you to use your own rifle and barrels to accomplish basically the same thing. The DARBS cost is a fraction of what Ruger wants for a complete rifle system.

Assuming that it will be sold. [:)]

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of Ruger guns (I own more Rugers than any other manufacturer) and I think they've made some good stuff lately; I just think that this one is the answer to a question nobody is asking.
