What's the Dumbest Comment Ever Said to you...

About guns?

It's been way too long since I've posted here.

The question in the title is something I've been thinking about for the last week because someone, once again, made a dumb comment to me about guns.

One that I've heard the most often is, "you have guns with kids in the house?!" As if that's the worst thing a guy could ever do...

And then, there's the occasional relative that will ask, "you carry a LOADED gun?!" Nah, I just carry an empty one to throw at the bad guys... Again, as if...

Any others?

"I'm perfectly fine with the restrictions we have on select fire weapons"

It was more or less to that effect.

Said right here on the forum.

And I'll give you three guesses who said it.

That was the dumbest, but it's this one is a close second (also said by a forum member):
"I support the NRA, what have you done for gun rights?"
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

What? your mom has a gun? Why? Women don't shoot and most don't like guns!

Me- My Mom is not most Women. She in her day was an NRA Rifle instructor that shot expert and also hunted, raised a family of 4 and was married for 47 years till widowed.

Some people can't wrap there leftist head around this. [:)]

we do not need guns that's what police are for , I had rather have some one
me than take the chance of having a gun in my house .
that was from a former co-worker ,She and her husband said they would just do what ever the bad guy(s) wanted and give them what ever they wanted ,

I can't believe you own a machine gun and they let bad guys have them, like the AR-15 and the AK-47. One of the liberals that work for me from a high class neighborhood.[xx(]

After shooting sub 1" groups at 200 yards with my XP-100 I had a guy with a AR that was shooting 6" groups at 50 yards tell me that pistols shouldn't be allowed on the rifle range because they were not accurate enough.

Years ago I was in my favorite gun shop looking for a new varmint
    rifle.
A new kid working the counter asked to help me.
"yes can I see that Remington 788 on the rack there" I asked.

the newbie went to hand me the gun. I held my hands up and said,
"could you open the bolt before you hand it to me".
    {I was taught never to take a closed gun from someone you didn't know}

The kid said, "IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF GUNS MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T TOUCH THEM"

The owner of the place {my old friend} Laffed and said "Bob, show him what you are carrying".

Opened my jacket to show the Officers model 1911 under my left arm and the colt .38 snub on my pants belt.

Another dumb one I've heard from a few: you carry a gun to church?!

Yes, yes I do. And no, it doesn't make Jesus want to puke, as I read someone said.

"Ammo is hard to find, but you can shoot 243s thru it"

Comment by the proprietor of a pawn shop while I was examining a custom Mauser in 257 Roberts.

"You need to quit being so defensive over the gun issue, you must understand the democrat party stance is to ultimately get guns out of the hands of everyone but the police and military". "We don't need no Second Amendment"

Visiting my late, dear old mom at the Nursing Home one day, she asked me "Where are you going when you leave here?" "To the gun shop to pick up a gun I ordered" I replied. She looked at me quizzically and said
"But I thought you already had a gun". We still chuckle about that one.[:)]

'The Mosquito? Sure, it will eat anything.'

Guy behind desk to me when purchasing.

After reading disclaimer in paperwork which included a coupon for Blazer HV ammo, the store, against company policy, bought the pistol ( unfired) back the next day.

This took place awhile ago but the conversation went like this.

I was shooting a K-31 Swiss straight pull.

    Guy comes up.

"Straight pulls aren't safe. Nothing locks the bolt closed."
    "What?"
"Nothing locks the bolt closed. You aren't turning the bolt into lock."

I thought he was joking. No, he went and got the range safety officer demanding I remove the gun from the line. Who laughed at him.

When selling a used/pre-owned firearm, potential customer asks:

"How many round have been shot thru it?"

Stock answer: They don't come with a 'round counter' but do you know where I can get one? [:0]

I'm not so sure this is necessarily a dumb question. Mark Christian--and nobody knows more about guns than Mark Christian--always includes details in his auctions about barrel wear and about the metal inside the gun. This is information directly related to how many rounds the gun has fired and what shape the gun is in.

Gun Tests magazine when reviewing used firearms writes about how revolvers are affected by the number of rounds fired, how that can affect the timing and barrel wear, etc. Beretta for years dealt with issues about slide cracking in the 92 directly related to the number of rounds fired.

So perhaps the "How many rounds has it fired?" is not phrased in the best possible way, but the customer's inquiry is extremely valid. What he or she is saying is "Is this firearm still in good shape and capable of good accuracy and function, or has it been fired so much that it is starting to wear out and will that affect performance?"

And--if you really want the truth of things--it's a pretty dumb thing to give potential customers smart * answers to reasonable questions. There's actually a term for this in the commercial world: "Out of business."

A co-worker was speaking out in favor of gun-free zones. I expressed the opinion that anyone willing to violate the moral and legal prohibitions against murder would not be deterred by a no-carry sign. So the law would not do any good.

She said, "Oh, I know that. But we've got to do something!

From my parents who got on a brief gun kick because they were convinced the Muslims would be riding into their rural southwestern VA neighborhood any day to behead them:

Them: "We bought a Taurus .38 and got our CHL's. Got to be ready - you never know what might happen."

Me: "So how/where do you carry it?"

Them: "We keep it in a sock, in the case, in a lock-box under the car seat, and keep the ammo in the trunk."

    Me: "What? That's really stupid."

Them: "Well, keeping it loaded makes us nervous. We're not all blood-thirsty like you. Besides, I'm not going to be killing anybody. I'll just shoot them in the leg."

    I have tried since I was a kid.....but they are hopeless [V]

I was at the Nation's capital, Washington, DC. At several locations around the capital building there were soldiers stationed with M4's. They were all on high perches, about 15 feet above the sidewalks. I looked up at one guy and asked him, "How many times a day does someone ask you if your gun is loaded?" He just smiled and shook his head.

Was at a party when the subject of guns in the home came up and one of the mothers said she would not let her son go to someone's house that had a gun and I engaged my mouth before my brain and asked her why don't you trust him would he be going through the drawers looking for something to steal. At least she never brought the subject up again when I was around, maybe that was a good thing.

Several years back a friend was over my house for dinner.
His wife & kids were in the other room playing with our kids.

Rich wanted to look at a SAA Rugar Vaquero of mine. I made sure it was unloaded, and handed it too him.

His wife walked into the room, and saw Rich holding & looking at the gun.

She then said, "Oh, are we playing with guns now?". I gave her a pretty stern look, and she turned & walked out of the room mumbling sarcastically something like "Boys and their toys!"

I don't give her the time of day now. I see her in Church, and I look the other way...[}:)]

A quality 1911 will always be a better firearm than a quality Glock.

Not a fair statement, of course, because the latter does not exist.

I went to the hospital for what I thought was a routine ultrasound. They found a blood clot and insisted on putting me in a room immediately. After I got to the room and settled in, a nurse asked if I had anything to put in the safe. I had already unloaded my pocket pistol and I gave it to her.

About an hour later a hospital administrator came to my room and said, "We could have you arrested."

I told him he was welcome to try but it would be a waste of his time and the cops since I held a permit and the building was not posted.

Later when my fiancee` came to visit I asked them to give the gun to her to take home. They had misplaced it! It took them over an hour to find out what had become of an item they were supposed to put in the safe.
