In Indiana.
Legal gun owners now can take their firearms with them to school parking lots in Indiana.
Gov. Mike Pence on Wednesday signed a bill into law to allow guns in school parking lots as long as they are locked in a vehicle and hidden from sight.
Students, unless they are members of a shooting club and have school permission, are not allowed to leave guns in their cars.
The measure spurred heated debate in the General Assembly.
Supporters say revising the law that previously banned guns on any school property will protect parents, who unknowingly were committing a felony by bringing their guns with them to pick up their children. Opponents argue easing gun restrictions around schools is dangerous and could make it easier for assailants to commit school shootings.

I just love that argument, because, you know, they wouldn't commit the shootings, if it was illegal to have the gun there.

all in all, it seems like a step in the right direction.
I would have liked to see possession in a school reduced from a class D felony to a class A misdemeanor as was originally proposed, but I guess we can't get it all at once.

Ask these gun grabbers why were there not all these shooting back in the 50s and 60s. We used to bring out shotguns to school, store them in our wall lockers and go hunting out back after school. I remember getting called down to the principles office during class so he could show me the new Browning he just purchased.
No reason a legally armed citizen shouldn't be able to drive through the parking lot.
That was already legal. The change is that now it's legal to leave your gun locked in your car if you have to go inside.
Though in Michigan, it's legal to open carry a holstered handgun in a school if you have a CPL.
Too old to live...too young to die...
It must be secured.
But any company infringing on that right will lose their ability to conduct business in the state.
Kind of a cool law.

I agree with the opponents. Look at all the school shooters who didn't bring their own weapon but found one locked in someone's car and decided on the spot, "I guess I'll shoot somebody."
after further review, I noticed that some ambiguity had been removed.
Previously, it was illegal to carry a firearm "in or on property that is being used by a school for a school function."
Hypothetically, given that statement, if you were at the library, and a school field trip showed up, you could be arrested and charged with a class D felony.
I'm really glad that they got that taken out of there.
