Up-Side of $4 per gallon gas ...

Vacation spots aren't over run with as many tourists so I can get lower rates and really relax!

People aren't buying as much junk food, so my insurance rates should go down!

Driving is more fun for me because more people are walking or taking the bus!

I get to see more vintage bikes & scooters on the roads!

Fewer people out joy riding so I can get to where I want to go easier!

Come on now ... think positive, What ya got?
If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

I'm walking to school and work every day, which translates to atleast two miles a day. In this Texas heat, I'm sweating off those pounds but good![:p]

Locally a lot of developments have stopped, saving our rural county for a few more years. Folks don't want to commute 1 1/2+ hr to the big city.

I just ordered new clutches for the scooter. I'll be back on the road, at 80MPG. by next Sat.!!It used to get 100, but a bought a "KIT" for it.
    New jug,head,piston/ring set,intake,carb,header-pipe w/expansion chamber. I also put a new front sprocket(2 x-tra teeth)on, for more top-end. I now have a 30MPH scooter that does 55![;)]
At least now i can keep-up with traffic on the streets.(not allowed on the interstate anyhow)Not that i'd wanna be on I-95 in anything smaller than a '55 Buick ROADMASTER anyhow.lol

I had to give up my truck for an economy car. The 30 miles per gallon I get is great though. Literally cut my gas bill in half. Of coarse living in southeast Texas and being male, your supposed to have a truck. So its kinda awkward.

It would be nice to see more mass transit and pedestrian friendly communities being built. And more scooters and bikes on the road instead of SUV's. Thats one thing I kinda miss about living in a big city is being able to just walk everywhere. And everything is within walking distance. And if you wanna get across town, you can take the bus for really cheap. And everyone is alot healthier from walking.

I don't wanna sound like a liberal, but its also good for the enviroment. I really get tired of having trouble breathing on those ozone days. I'ma have to start buying oxygen before to long... I'm to young for that.

I hate the gas prices just as much as the next guy... And no one likes to change when their comfortable. But at least there are some upsides. And at least we aren't having to deal with the european gas prices... Its like 4 or 5 bucks a LITER from what I understand... Thats like a liter of cola, liter.... Man it must cost a fortune to drive over there...

I was wondering this morning how the long term effects of oil prices may intersect with a reduced number of automobile accidents due to the seeming eventuality that there will be fewer people on the roads.

i wonder how high scooter deaths will increase now,i see some real idiots riding them now who apparently believe that the rules of the road over ride the laws of physics

the wife saw a guy get plowed on one last week, she called me upset because she has never seen a death

$4 gasoline is too cheap to make any significant change. $10 gasoline, maybe.

I can imagine the monetary strain by driving a large, weighty vehicle. I drive a Toyota MR2. Very responsive.

It has a small engine, but virtually no body weight. Hwy MPG is about 38mpg. Peaky engine, though. Transmission is of the close ratio variety. The power is derived by high revs, not low-end torque. 4V/cyl DOHC makes it a good car, but you have to be RPM conscious. Constantly have to work through the gears to keep the engine in the power band.

So, I have a responsive car, and it's very easy on gas. I really can't complain, given the grand scheme of things. Joe

My habits haven't changed. Even at $4/gal, it's worth $70/wk in gas to drive a full size quad-cab pickup instead of some faggy hybrid or Steve Earkel car

Rumor has it the high cost of oil in general is bringing back some jobs that went overseas, particularly in the steel industry.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

I bought a new MR2 in 1985 - first year - and really loved it.

I used it as a suspension development mule for Quickor Engineering.

I surely like the MR2 Spyders (roadsters) - look like baby Ferraris, and you can get them with a factory supercharger.

    Maybe I'll get one.

Does the phrase "low polar moment of inertia" mean anything to
    y'all ??

If gas stays at its current level or increases some more; the price of that Ranger boat I plan to buy just might go down a little or a lot! [8D]

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!

I'm wasting less time making trips for no particularly good reason other than instant gratification. Also, with my Ford Ranger paid off this month, and the price of gas, after twelve years I can justify buying another motorcycle -- unfortunately the same folks who thanked me profusely for making that last payment ten days early in the very same conversation nixed another loan, on which I'd have been making barely half the monthly payment I'd managed with no problems for the last four years.

"Thank you for your payment, Mr. Lange, is there anything else we can do for you today -- that doesn't involve money?"

But the fact I can even think seriously about another bike -- just have to work out that minor detail of slightly over five thousand dollars -- is a positive, and the price of gas definitely has a lot to do with that.
