D2 steel plate was replaced today

This hunk of D2 tool steel has been shot a few times. I hung a replacement piece of AR 500 to replace it. Note the protruding core from a hit with 30 cal M2-AP from 250 yards. Some of the other hits left deep impact craters, one shot shattered upon impact. It is obvious this plate has been hit a few times. [:D]

There are many thousands of hits on that plate from 30-06, 308, 243, 6mmBR, 22BR, 223, 7.62X39, 8MM Mauser, 45/70 357 mag, 44 mag, muzzle loaders and 22 LR. The chains holding it up have been re-welded and replaced many times, sometimes more than once in a day. [:0]

It weighs about 50 pounds, mailing it would be spendy.

Some of those shots appear to be slightly off center. [;)]

It's almost approaches "a piece of art". Maybe donate it a local sports club for a fund raiser/auction. If framed it may bring in $$$[;)]

How did it nearly resist all rust? It's practically rust free..

For some reason tool steels do not get rusty like ASTM36 steels does plus all the lead splash from the impacts might help.

The secret is in the Chromium content. Tools steels have some chromium; ASTM A36 or other carbon steels really do not.
