Sons 20 minute Deer Hunt

The Illinois firearm season opened Friday.
My son, a senior at SIU, had a test that he had to take.
He left after the test at 1:00.
He made the almost 3 hour drive and came right to our hunting spot.
Retrieved his open sighted, fully rifled 11/87 and his orange from my truck and headed to his stand.
I can see his stand from my stand which is about 300 yards away.
It made me very happy to see the him in stand. [:D]
At 4:25, I noticed something across from his stand.
I pulled my binoculars out and noticed it was a buck.
I panned over to him and noticed him in the ready to shoot position.
I panned back over to the deer when I saw a puff of hair fly, the buck drop, the heard the bang.
I noticed the Bucks head was still up and my son, not wanting it to get back up or suffer, shot again ending it for good.
He immediately called me. [:D]
When I got down and started his way, he was walking towards me.
He stated that this was his biggest deer!
A very nice 8 pointer.
His first shot took out one lung and the opposing shoulder.
His second was in the neck, making a full shoulder mount difficult since it had a pretty big * which would need one heck of a sew job.
We decided I'd do a European mount of it.
He was in the stand about 20 minutes.
It was awesome for me to not only see it happen but also to have him hunt with me, if only for 20 minutes.
I'll try to get a pic posted Monday.

awesome job!!!! Congrats. If you need someone to make a plaque for the mount, let me know. I can make some neat plaques. Oakie
Thank you for the generous offer but, not sure how I want to do it yet.
I retrieved his empty shells yesterday and I recovered the slugs while skinning too.
I plan on making use of them somehow.

Congratulations!
Always good to see the next generation having success.
Serious about his studies and serious about his hunting, doesn't get any better than that, you should be proud.
