Hope this is FAKE NEWS......how does a Russian fighter fly within 20 feet of one of our ships....we're all defense systems down and everybody asleep.....what is protocol for this crap....at least shoot him with a paint round for him to know.....yo jazz has been tagged and we coulda....

We don't shoot unless fired Upon. We.know what the attack profiles of their fighters are just like they know ours....if they are not flying an attack profile, we know it's just a pissing contest.

We fly by their ships too to take photos, we just don't cross their bow, that's a no-no. VA and VF planes can get down to deck height and fly by very fast(600 KTS). They used to practice on carriers flying below the flight deck at about 75 yards off the port side.

You gotta understand, coming in close like that in a fixed wing aircraft is not an attack profile. Exocets, Harpoons, and others are meant to be fired from a distance. Rockets, guns, bombs, and torpedos are close in weapons, but few people in the Navy even know you can attack a surface ship with an airlaunced torpedo. It's not taught anymore.
