Hey folks, I hope this message finds all of you well. I am here in Chesterfield, VA getting pounded by snow thunder [:p] I have a canoe listed on {elsewhere} and just received an email response that seems fishy to me and was wondering what you all think. Thanks for taking a look. Here it is:

Hi there,

Thank you for getting back to me.Can you assure me that it is in good state and that I will not be disappointed with it .I'm ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, but the issue is I'm a marine biologist and I do have a contract to go for which starts tomorrow .The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area. But I'm able to access email any time as we will make use of laptop so my only quickest payment option is Pay Pal as I can send money via Pay Pal any time I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a pick up agent that will come for it once payment clears and they will be handling it for me.

Your Pay Pal e-Mail Address :
Full name:
Firm Price:

Many Thanks

I've been selling stuff on Craig's list. Every so offen I get a email like this one:

    Hello,

Am interested in the item you advertised because i like the
condition you stated about it and I would like to make an outright
purchase immediately so i would want you withdraw the advert from the
    web.
Regarding the payment term,I can only for now pay you with a
certified check in U.S dollars so pls let me have the following
informations so that the payment can be made to you :
.Your full name to be on the check.
    2.Your postal address.
    3.Your postal code
4.Your mobile phone number (For easier comunications).
Kindly get me the above requested information as soon as
possible.Concerning the shippment,it is my regular shipper that will
come for the pick up as soon as you recieve your money in hands.

    Thanks in Advance.

I'm sure it's a scam, because they are always very general in mentioning the item. And they always ask for the same information.
Not once has any of them ask to come see the item.

How does it work? What are they are they trying to scam from me?

I recieved an email that says it is from Gunbroker that says my credit card info is incomplete & has been declined to validate my registration. I don't remember ever giving my card info to G.B. It gives a website to go to to validate my card #. The site is http//crusehosting.com/bandwidth/ShowLogin.aspx.htm">Click. This don't seam right. I did not click onto that website. Is this really from G.B.?

This is such a good deal? I found this on {elsewhere}. he wants $4100 for both atvs and the trailer. He emailed me this link, but i'm having second thoughts. and thinking that its not real. Not all the links work. do some investigating for me for i have not bought anything off of ebay before. I copyied the item number and went to ebay and searched by the item # and nuthing came up. but he said that it is a private auction, so i dont know if i would be able to find it or not if it is a private auction. If its real im going to buy it!

Its a scam. They dont care about the item at all. They will overpay the shipping with a bad check that will take weeks to go through your bank and ask you to refund the extra money. If you hit search there are several GB members that have tortured the scammers and posted the replies here.

i will assume by their qoute that they are not in the u.s.,also by the wording of it. that being the case sounds like it is a scam. i have bought things from the u.s. before and i either use my credit card or i go to a post office or my bank and get u.s. currency and post it off.
if you want to deal with them be careful...i wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole!

I don't bother with Craig's list anymore, it is riddled with scams. I think almost all ads get at least 1 scam offer like you got.

It can take weeks for a "certified bank check" to clear or bounce.

If it sounds like a duck ....
And it walks like a duck .....
And it looks like a duck .....
    It is usually a duck!

positive its a scam I have gotten this same one about ten times. Tell them you can only receive mail at a post office box and they will leave you alone. They only ship using ups or fedex and around here neither will deliver to a po box.

This is because using USPS is a federal crime for their scam. Most of these scams stear clear of the USPS due to that reason.

Definitly a scam due to the grammer. They will send you a check, but it will be more than the purchase price and they will ask you to either wire the difference back to them or wire money to someone for shipping. Western Union wires can be picked up by anyone with the code information, anywhere in the world, espically Nigeria.

Lots of scams out there now a days.

One that we had recently was a Washington Mutual check with a phone number on it that you call to confirm the check, you talk to a guy, he confirms the amount on the check, and you send it to your bank. A month later you get the check back and your money is gone. I called the number on the check again, and guess what, the check is still good? I ask the guy how can that be and that I am in Law Enforcment and he acts like he does not understand, he probably is in India or some kinda wear like that. If they can't tell you who the check is made out to, I would not take it. On here, unless they have good feedback, I am going to wait until the check clears before I ship anything. Dang crooks!
