jiffy lube

99% of the time i change my own oil and
grease my own vehicles, but with surgery comming up i opted not to lay on the wet and cold ground. so i went to jiffy lube. i had my own oil and filter, told them to change both and grease my truck . no more than 10 minutes the truck was done. the lady at the desk said $20.00 and we only added 4 1/2 qts. i asked why, they replied their computer said so. i didn't dispute them,i said that i would add the rest. my wife had to go to another store and while she was in there i decided to add the rest of the oil. as i did i noticed the tie rod ends were dirty and did not have fresh grease showing . i went back and raised hell. well you would not believe the excuses i recieved .one blamed it on the other and he had an excuse and bla bla bla. it did get greased . so if you go to any lube shop be sure and check to make sure you get what you pay for.

Did they wipe the dirt off of the zerks before they pumped in grease or did they pump the dirt right on in with the fresh grease?

It ain't just Jiffy Lube. It's everybody and it's worldwide and it's been going on forever. Shortly after I moved to Spain in 1969 my wife took my car to the Navy Exchange Service Station at Rota for an oil change and lube. They charged her for oil change, lube and change head gaskets. When I went back and asked the manager how they changed the head gaskets without moving any grease or dirt and grime he told me they saw the head gaskets needed changing so they put it on the bill, but then they didn't have the gaskets, so they just charged me for it. I guess that was the best he could come up with on short notice.

I won't take any of our rigs to them. Tried it a couple of times and had to fight them to get them to leave my air cleaner alone (K&N which dosen't require changing) along with all the other add-on stuff they try to get you to allow them to do.[V] In their opinion, a $20.00 oil change should cost you about $35.00.[:(]

The rejects from McDonalds work at Jiffy Lube. They hire complete retards. They are managed extremely poorly as well - usually the employee that shows up late least often gets the position.

You are lucky they put back on the oil drain plug!

Jiffy Lube has a notoriously bad rep.
All of the quick change oil places are not bad though.
I have taken my commercial vehicles, and my Avalanche to one in particular for almost 3 years.
They have had me down in the pit, to be able to see that all is being done,.......regardless of the "insurance" BS.
I used to mark my oil filters with a sharpie at first, to make sure it was being changed.
You just need to find someone you trust, and stay with them, even if they are a few bucks higher.
Always keep an eye out though.
You guys that want to change it yourselves, and I guess dump the oil into the ground,.........I hope you get nailed.
If you want to do it yourself, and take the oil back to an auto store, fine, but I don't have enough spare time to do that for the sake of five dollars,.........not counting my time.
Another, to each their own story, and also about having common sense.

I used to manage a car rental place, and at least twice a week jiffy lube would rent a car for one of their customers becuse they forgot to put the oil in and the customer would blow an engine. And yes I did say AT LEAST twice a week.

WTH...that is where it came from; some still seeps above the ground in many places on the planet. No harm no foul. I use mine to start trash fires and burn all the cans and plastic trash up. [:D]

Damn Jiffy Lubes are expensive around here usually $30 to $40 for an oil change. I haven't been to one in years.

Local small shop does my oil & rotates my tires for $15 total.

I wathced that report when it first aired here on Channel 4, our NBC station. Shoddy work like that only goes on at so many franchise locations because the folks at Jiffy Lube headquarters allow or even encourage it to happen. I simply cannot stand the idea of someone else changing the oil in any of my cars so I'll put on my coveralls and do it myslef. Others who are physically unable to do this work (as jwb is now) are the prey of those looking to make a fast buck without lifting a finger and not giving a damn.

Trust your local trusted independent mechanic.

I supply the oil and filter and Terry (Terry's Auto Clinic) does the work - including lube, vacuum interior and wash glass inside and out - for $10. (503) 843-7427
