Walther P22's

Having problems with my newly acquired pistol, it just doesn't cycle, seems that the main spring isn't strong enough. Is it just mine or does anyone else have same issues?

I have one and I have spent more time working on it than shooting it.[:(!] Go to rimfirecentral.com and talk to the guys in the walther section. They have a p22 bible of the tweaks you have to do to em. So far I have had to polish the disconnect ears, fix the safty, reshape the hammer, and reshape the chamber feed ramp(thats probally your problem). When it shoots its a fun gun and if you have any mechanical skills you can do the repairs yourself. Mine seems to be working for now if you have any questons let me know.

I really enjoyed my P22 when it was around. It took a brick to get going, but afterwards it was absolutely perfect. Like a lot of .22 pistols, they're very ammo sensitive. Try using mini-mag or stinger ammo to get things moving. Don't work on it, send it back to S&W. It's free.

Ditto. Mine works fine with mini mags, poorly with bulk crap. Wax coated ammo in particular feeds poorly.

have one 3.5" bbl & have had very little trouble...use the walther laser to pop varmints around house at night....been using only aguila hi-vel sup-max 1750 fps....but seems like to complicated a design for a blowback 22..still hard to find a compact dbl action that is this handy...like the side safety with hammer safety....back sight setup sucks...dusty country around here so clean gun & drown with a teflon lube blow/wipe off excess..grit doesn't stick

I have 2 of them and what everyone is saying is pretty much true. I've never had any problems from the ones I have. The spring is a little too strong though. Just keep the hammer pulled back while you store. That seems to take care of the problem. The first runs had problems with the mags. Try to stay away from those.

Use good ammo and that should end your problems.

I love mine! Had to send it in for work on the safety though. Other than that, no problems. I only use CCI Stingers or Aguila sub sonic ammo. Great little pistol![8D]

I have on too. It was really hit or miss about firing for a long time no matter what ammo I was using. I don't remember the exact problem but for some reason after putting the adapter for my suppressor on it I had very few problems. With the suppressor on I have never had a problem with it other then burning up tons of ammo.

I have one. I love the smaller size. It fits my hands very well.
Mine has the longer barrel like Nwcid, but no can.
I love mine it shoots every thing, mostly federal bulk. That's because nothing else I have with shoot this crappy ammo.
Mines going on 1500 rounds only cleaned once. No problems so far. Mine must be a rarity.
If you have problems with yours I would send it back.

Check out Rimfirecentral.com. They have a Walther forum with lots of post about the P22. My dad considered buying one until he read the afore mentioned forum and all the bad things the posters had to say.

I have one. Never had any problems shooting it.

The Good: Light, pretty, makes a good movie prop. (I do films sometimes.) It works with whatever ammo I put in it.

The Bad: Not as accurate as my Ruger Mk.II, nor does it point as well. (The Ruger is finicky about ammo though.)

Nice rig....Which suppressor did you get? Did you install yourself?
I have a short and a long barrel. I am saving short for mods.

    Rockatansky,
I have a long barrel P22. Love it. Have pushed approx 3000 rounds through it. I have had few problems. A few misloads mostly from "A" mags second round. I have 2 "A" and 2 "B" mags. No issues with "B" mags. I have had a few fail to fires. I shoot the cheap ammo. Federal. Everyone that shoots the gun likes it. I also have bought a short barrel that I will mod before shooting. Good luck. Let me know if you need any comments from a novice......

Well on this gun there is no installing it, you just screw it on. On the P22 if you can clean your gun you can put this on. You just replace the bbl nut with a thread adapter, it is that simple and no perminate (sp) changes. I have several other 22's that are threaded that most just required the removed bbl to be threaded on a threading machine. On my Kimber 22 I had a had an adapter/extension added to the bbl.

The can is a Gemtech Outback 2.

I think I am going to start a new thread about some of this.

Wife and I both have P22s with TAC65s.

Mine has been shot mercilessly and the slide notch is starting to wear.

Hers will not work reliably w/o the can.

I've modded mine by hooking the damn spring out to disable the stupid mag safety and putting a hi-vis front sight on it.

Thanks, everyone. Looks like my problem is with feeding ramp, I'll have to read up on it. I might opt out for something else, the only reason I got it was to put a can on it for indoor practice but it being as accurate as my rubber band gun, it defeats the purpose.

Mine worked flawlessly, until it began failing to shoot, unless you pulled the trigger 4 or 5 times. That's dangerous.

So I took it to GANDER MOUNTAIN. They sent it to the manufacturer, and it was returned fixed just fine. Seems the problem was with shooting the higher velocity rounds through it. So thereafter, I shot the more common and slower brands of cartridges, and until I dropped it accidently into the river, it did fine again.

Oh yeah, gunsmith at GANDER MOUNTAIN said, 'No Charge', from either themselves, or the manufacturer. That was pretty cool, since the gun was four or five years old.

bought one new and got a used one off GB... no problems here, and I dry fire all the time to practice proper "trigger-pull".

D@mn thing quit working again. I think the firing pin broke or jammed. I keep pulling the trigger (yes the safety is off) and nothing, no dent on the round. Looks like I have a project tonight.[:(!]
