quote:LINN COUNTY, Ore. - Linn County sheriff's deputies say a poaching investigation ended with the suspect ramming three patrol cars and a car owned by an innocent bystander.
Deputies say they were asking Joseph Williams about a report that he tried to shoot a deer in the Sweet Home area.
They got in an argument and Williams allegedly hopped back in his truck and led deputies on a chase.
They say he intentionally hit four cars all together, sending three law enforcement officers to the hospital. They were all treated and released.
This is what did the damage

quote:0/25/12 Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that yesterday evening his deputies were involved in a pursuit that resulted in the suspect intentionally ramming three police cars and one car owned by a private citizen.
On October 24 at approximately 8:54 pm, the Sheriff's Office received a report from a caller who saw a male subje
ct near a 1978 Chevrolet pickup spotlighting deer in the area of 25700 Old Holley Road, Sweet Home. The caller reported that he warned the male subject not to shoot the deer. The suspect then asked the caller if he should shoot him instead.
Deputy Corey Putney arrived in the area a short time later and recognized the male from a previous contact as Joseph Arthur Williams, age 34, who is a transient living in the Sweet Home area. While being questioned by the deputy about poaching deer, Williams was in possession of a large hunting knife. The deputy asked Williams to remove the knife from his waistband and place the knife on the ground. After placing the knife on the ground, Williams then ignored the deputy's commands and tried to pick up the knife while cursing and yelling at the deputy. Williams then got into his pickup and sped away, nearly colliding with the deputy's patrol car. Williams drove in the opposing lane of travel and stopped a short distance away from the deputy. While this was occurring, the deputy learned Williams' Oregon driver license was suspended and there was a valid warrant for his arrest.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop on Williams. When the deputy exited his patrol car to make contact with Williams, he rapidly accelerated his pickup in reverse toward the patrol car, stopping just short of crashing into the front of it. Williams then sped away from Deputy Putney, continuing this maneuver several more times.
Three officers from Sweet Home Police Department responded to the area to assist along with two additional Linn County deputies. Williams refused to yield, driving through the residential area of 3rd Street and Ironwood Streets within the city limits of Sweet Home. The chase continued east on Hwy 228 to the area of Fern Ridge Road, then back into the area of 3rd Street and Hwy 228. Williams turned south on 3rd Street, stopped in the middle of the street, then intentionally accelerated in reverse crashing into the front of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria Sweet Home patrol car driven by Officer Brian Stevens. The airbags in the patrol car deployed and Officer Stevens received a sprained left wrist. The patrol car is a total loss.
After ramming the Ford patrol car, Williams accelerated forward, stopped, accelerated in reverse and intentionally rammed into the 2007 Chevrolet Impala Sweet Home patrol car driven by Sergeant Jeff Lynn. Sgt. Lynn received minor injuries from the collision. The airbags in the Impala deployed and the car is a total loss. Sgt. Lynn's car was followed by Linn County Sergeant Dave Opel driving a 2010 Ford Mustang. Williams was able to push the Impala several hundred feet backward, causing the rear of the Impala to collide with the front of the Mustang. Sgt. Opel was not injured and there was moderate damage to the front of the Mustang.
After disabling the Impala and the Crown Victoria, Williams continued to drive south on 3rd Street and attempted to back into a third Sweet Home police car. Williams missed the patrol car, instead backing into a 1989 Honda Civic parked near the intersection of 3rd Street and Ironwood Street owned by Blain Bates of Sweet Home. No one was in the Honda, and it is also a total loss..
Williams continued his path of destruction turning east on Elm Street where he stopped in the middle of the street. Linn County Sergeant Shawn Fielders, operating a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car, located Williams and avoided additional attempts by Williams to ram his patrol car. Sergeant Fielders was able to get in front of Williams who then attempted to ram Sergeant Fielder's car with the front of his pickup. Sergeant Fielders was able to turn his patrol car around in an attempt to avoid Williams' ramming attempts, however Williams sideswiped the patrol car caving in the driver side door. Sergeant Fielders received minor * cuts from the broken side window glass. The patrol car is a total loss. During the collision with the patrol car the steering mechanism in Williams' pickup broke, causing the pickup to crash into a residential retaining wall. Williams attempted to flee on foot, however he was taken into custody by the Sweet Home Officers and Linn County Deputies on scene.
Sergeant Fielders, Sergeant Lynn and Officer Stevens were evaluated at the Lebanon Community Hospital where they were treated and released.
The Oregon State Police, working in conjunction with members of the Linn County Multi Agency Investigation Team (MAIT), responded to assist with the investigation. Additional assistance was provided by the Sweet Home Fire Department, the Albany Police Department and the Lebanon Police Department.
Williams was not injured and was transported to the Linn County Jail where he was charged with 3 counts of Assaulting a Police Officer, Attempt to Elude Police, Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief and Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver Involved in a Crash.
The case remains under investigation and additional charges are anticipated

I'd be pizzed that the cops hadn't been allowed to ram and/or shoot the azzhat off the road ASAP.
Imagine driving down the road with your family and encountering this numbnuts flying down the wrong side of the road and ramming other cars.

Exactly! He's lucky he didn't get a good ole fashioned * kickin!

Have not seen any Mug Shots of the guy.
Exactly! He's lucky he didn't get a good ole fashioned * kickin! His victim's tombstones would say he was punished, but they'd still be just as dead.
If someone were walking down the street randomly firing a gun toward people we wouldn't expect the cops to just follow them, wait until they ran out of ammo and arrest them. Instead they'd put a quick stop to it and the world would applaud their actions.
There's little difference between that and intentionally endangering people by ramming cars and flying down the wrong side of the road at high speed.
Keep in mind that in this situation the cop had approached the truck and had the guy step out, which indicates he knew for a fact that this azzhat was it's sole occupant.
Yes, that is either felonious assault or attempted murder, as well as felony fleeing/ reckless driving/ felony hit & run. He can quit worrying about deer season.
see it on the news at least 2 or 3 times a month.
It does cut down on repeat offenders.[:)]
