RR was the fist President that I had a chance to vote for and is in fact the last President I voted for who did not turn out to be a total disappointment.

    OH......he was just GREAT!

I still can't understand why GUN PEOPLE think he was so great!

HE SUCKED FOR GUN OWNERS! He was PERSONALLY responsible for getting the Brady Bill passed, not to mention preventing the manufacturing of new machine guns!

Where does this Reagan worship come from? He was a crappy "conservative" in several areas. He tripled the defecit, spent money like it was water, and built up the government like he was Obama's grandpa!

Get a clue people, he was NOT a friend of gun owners, nor a true conservative!

Don't confus them with facts Merc. He also had to be reminded that the war story he was recounting, was actually the plot of one of the propaganda movies he made during the war.

Those who ask us to trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are architects of a policy of accommodation.

Given as a stump speech, at speaking engagements, and on a memorable night in 1964 in support of Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign.

Well, not him so much, but he did get shot the same day that James Brady did.

Stop and think for ten seconds.

What would you do when asked to sign those bills?

Was it the best thing to do?? Probably not, were you shot? No, you were not.

    Cpt,
It is your playground, and I don't want to argue with you, but you are 100% WRONG on this one. He was PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for getting the bill passed! He "made the phone calls" and shook people down to get it passed. Don't believe me? Do some research, and you'll find that the BRADY CENTER wrote him a letter thanking him for getting it passed! That letter is online, I'll see if I can find it.

And no, I don't know what I would do after I'd been shot, but I have been known to stick to my beliefs, no matter the social or financial consequences.

The point is, many people act like he is some sort of god, and he wasn't such a great "conservative" as people make him out to be. His "Legend" is a load of hooey.

Ok, I can't find the letter from the Brady Center thanking Reagan for getting the Brady Bill passed. I do believe it was on packing.org, but that seems to be gone now.

This site has some GREAT information about Reagan, and how he was an enemy to gun owners:

    http://www.keepandbeararms.com/newsarchives/XcNewsPlus.asp?cmd=SHOWTOP

Read that, and let me know what you think.

    Also this:

    http://archive.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=22064

Twenty-four years later, Reagan was still pushing gun control. "I support the Brady Bill," he said in a March 28, 1991 speech, "and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay."

Yes maybe not the best President but I always will believe that he had the best intentions for America at heart with everything he did which to me made him a class act and I have not felt that about any president since.

I've been shot. I wouldn't have signed the bills.

In CA Ronald Reagan also signed, well before he was shot, a bill banning the open carry of loaded firearms. While I do not for a second believe this is reponsible for CA's current gun control mania(the Democrats running the state are responsible for that) it doesn't speak well of Reagan that he supported, pushed and signed such a bill.

I don't think Reagan was horrible on guns, I think he wasn't particularly good and not much different than our current Republican presidential candidate. Allowing that he was very good on many things but not on guns doesn't seem off base.
