12 bucks over your wholesale cost or buds wholesale cost ?

I have a friend that does enough business he can buy direct from the manufacturer bypassing the distributers mark up, I know he had to purchase 10,000 dollars worth to start up from smith and Wesson , as well as a few others

An online firearm purchase requires "additional" expense not readily seen, such as...
    Shipping and transfer fees.
A local shop can 'match' the "total" price if they at least are knowledgeable of these additional 'fees'.

Pointing out such additional fees at the moment the question is asked could make the sale.
Ignoring these additional fees, certainly will lose the sale.

Just saying that online purchases, while certainly less costly on the surface...
Don't always result in a totally less overall cost to the end buyer.

I'd suggest become more knowledgeable about what online sales imply and take advantage of it.
    And not complain about it.

We live in a very large market, almost world wide market today.

Hope your next sales opportunity goes much better.

He will be back when he needs service. Tell him to send it to Buds[}:)][}:)][}:)]If he doesn't want to support a local business and get all the services that you supply him, as well as your support, screw him. I hate going the extra mile for a potential customer, only to get screwed by a few bucks. Then after all that, after the contractor they hired won't come back or stand behind any problems, they call me. That burns my *. Sorry for the rant. Look, I realize that you can't get everyones business, but when it comes down to just a few bucks, Really??Well, welcome the the internet destruction of small business. Oakie

Customer comes in today and rents and shoots our Ruger LC9-S rental gun today. One of my guys spends time with the man going over several different small 9mm handguns discussing different options for holsters and ammo etc, maybe 20 minutes. Customer thanks us leaves and returns this evening wanting to know if we will match Bud's price which is exactly $12.00 over our cost so if he pays with a credit card we actually lose money on the deal. I explain we can't match the price and he thanks us and says he will order from Bud's. We will not receive any gun from Bud's and neither will most of the other shops in town. A lot of the guns folks order from Bud's are shipped directly from a distributors warehouse so Bud's doesn't have to have them in stock and has no overhead cost. Sports South and some other distributors ship for Buds but many have stopped due to pressure from small shops like us. I realize everybody wants a great deal but the shops have to make a living or there won't be any gun shops to receive transfers. And doesn't service and expertise count for something?

Did you make money on the rental?

    I don't understand people.

I have an FFL holder I use for all my transfers, a d whenever I am looking for a new firearm, I call him.

If he can get within $100.00 or 10% (depending upon value) of what I would pay at a large store, he gets the business.

I really wish more supposedly patriotic gun owners would support local mom and pop stores and realize it is worth a little extra to do that and buy American at the same time.

Agreed, every firearm I have ever bought has been from a small business. Always will be. I just always seem to get better service at the local places.

I stopped at Buds yrs ago on the way home empty with my flatbed car hauler. Picked up a superb deal on a gun safe. He had a ton of safes to look at. Of course they were all wholesale priced. They helped me load it.

What I see in this thread is the Blame Game. Blaming someone for getting a better deal. So what? I imagine the dealers shop for their lowest price wholesale company...

I'm all for supporting local businesses when it makes sense, but I too normally look for the best prices, and they're usually found online nowadays.

I'm also very frustrated by the fact that the biggest stocking dealer in this area (has 3 stores in the FL panhandle) seems to hire only a***holes...I've never seen an unfriendlier bunch of "gun folk." Gun prices are usually not too bad, but accessories are priced at full retail, and going there is just plain unpleasant. On my last (and I mean last) purchase, the salesman's final comment after the paperwork was finished wasn't "thanks for your business," it was "you are now free to leave."

Unfortunately for me, it's just easier (and usually cheaper even with shipping & $21 to my ffl) & far more pleasant to buy online. GunBroker is my friend [:D]

Why wouldn't you accept a transfer from Buds??

Wouldn't you be making $30 on the transfer for 10 minutes of "work" for doing the transfer? Sounds like a good deal to me. How much would you make on the gun if you had sold it to him?

Not to mention you'd be able to sell him ammo, holster, and a gun cleaning kit.

Sounds like you just swept money on out the door.

No, the people who deal with Buds and his kind, do not spent money at the local dealers. They get all their stuff off the inter net.
We do transfers. The people who are getting some gun that is used, collectible or neat, do buy ammo, cleaning kits and other items.
The guy who buys his Glock, Kimber, Benelli, SIG or what ever from place 'cause it is cheap, do not spend any money in the store.

I still wouldn't be throwing out money for a transfer.

Me either...besides doing transfers may build future relationships and bring about future purchases. Saying no and hanging up the phone only guarantees they won't ever be back.
