There's something about South Carolina

I've been working in SC for the last 3 weeks to finish my school and graduate, and having spent so many years living around Charlotte, NC, I find SC to be quite different. I am amazed at the number of people who so willingly discuss guns and shooting. Now I know some of you don't like the idea of doctors asking patients about guns, but I find working in therapy that people in SC are very willing to talk about guns, even if nobody mentions them, and I don't. I never ask anyone anything gun related, but yet the people here talk about them freely. I have never heard so much talk in NC, but I have to say the population is different, and I like it.

Even working with people who voted for Obama, but yet they are quite upset over the government trying to take their guns away. Which I find unusual. And at the same time, they are part of the reason we are in this mess. I could be glad they are for guns now, but if only they were earlier, things might be different.

    Die Hard,

In case you didn't know it, the State of South Carolina is RED and all of the electoral votes went to Romney.

We talk about guns because they are a big part of the culture here. I moved here and have no regrets. Hopefully, we'll get a replacement for Lindsey Graham soon. One of our state boys is going to take him on. Lee Bright is "one of us". Pro 2nd Amendment, pro Flat-tax, etc.

Come on south of Charlotte for a change of pace.

Love it here. Been here for 22 years. The people are great, very religious, very conservative, VERY pro-gun. The number of hunters or just shooters is amazing. If we ever have serious riots, spilling out to the suburbs, I'll never get a shot. Before they get to me, they have to pass a bunch of my neighbors, all gun owners.[:D]

I work in South Carolina and it is nearly, a libertarian state. This state understands the US constitution.
Remember, this is where the Confederacy got its start. Push these guys too hard, and they will fight!

They have sensible gun laws here including, if a convicted felon has completed his probation, he may possess firearms.

Even though I endured Parris Island, and MCAS Beaufort, I still respect the residents of SC. They are true Southerners that haven't been diluted with blue state idiots!!

My first extended visit to South Carolina was to Charleston in April 2011 for the anniversary of the firing on Ft. Sumter. It was great. There weren't exactly the tens of thousands of people there that they hoped, but I was at the battery at 5:30 am to honor the original participants.

I have lived all over the world and the finest city I have ever lived in is the Charleston SC area. Love it, hope to retire there someday.

Lindsey Graham is reviled here in Upstate S.C. He lost his home county in his last election. The people in Spartanburg/Greenville know him better than the rest of the State as not only is he from here, he was our Congressman before he became our Senator. He was a very good Congressman. Once elected to the Senate, he changed. To be honest, I doubt he changed. Once in the Senate I think he stopped pretending and the real Lindsey Graham stepped out of the closet.

The out of the closet may mean more than one would think. I have never heard him linked to any woman.

    Doesn't SC have a 7% income tax?
Plus at over $14K you enter the 7% tax bracket?

    hopefully!!!!!

but my ? is........will he take his head outta mccains butt long enough to run?

why we hate him? in a word.....RINO (ok, acronym)

look, he ONLY has the gun issue down pat because he knows he'd be dead meat IF he were to come out in favor of ANY gun control legislation. the only way LG got stroms seat was to pretend to be a strom thurmond conservative.

oh, and here in the dark corner we consider charleston to be the liberal armpit of SC.

Unfortunately he will, unless they run someone conservative against him. He will be either the lesser of 2 evils or the devil you know type of candidate.

SF, I prefer NC style BBQ[;)]

Hopefully it won't be a problem much longer...there is a very good conservative State Senator that may run against Graham in the Primary. Graham is a big government progressive like his boyfriend, Mccain.

I'd love to move to Myrtle Beach.
