I Keep On Winning

First i got stage 4 cancer of the mouth, tongue, and lymph nodes in my neck.

I had less that 10% i would make it. When i asked the doctor he would not look at me and tell me.

My chemo doctor asked me at least 5 times if i had quit smoking or dipping yet. I told him i have never done either and i do not drink.

He told me over 99% of people who get this cancer smoke and or drink.

I was in the 1% i was special.

Now i am being treated for Addisons disease.

It seems the chance of getting this disease is 1 to 4 in 100,000.

Yea i win again.

Like Trump said i am tired of winning.[:(]

Dave, I hope they get you straightened out as far as your cortisol levels go, and that you get a break from anymore illness.

With your ability at beating the odds, you ought to go to Vegas... Seriously though, I'll pray for you to beat it

    Dave,

What can I say? The obstacles keep coming and you keep on keeping on. Kudos my brother! Just by being here you've beat the odds. LIVE!

    Mike,

I had my suspicions that things were not going well. "Palliative" has a dark ring to it. "Hospice" even a darker ring. Is there anything I could say or do to make things even a little better for you? I've told you before that I'd make the trip to see you without a second thought.

Mike, I'd gladly do it just to shake your hand. I hope you know this. My thoughts and prayers are with you. No matter, I'll meet you soon enough.

    God Bless You and Yours.

    Oakie,

Given your "bug" I'll decline... Not that I don't appreciate the offer. I've been so fortunate. Since diagnosed I haven't had so much as the sniffles. This despite my wife coming down with a hard cold and that I do IT work for a nursing facility. Not very long ago even a light cold would have killed me. How I've avoided the bugs going around is a mystery to me. Still, I don't dare risk even a flu shot.

In any event you aren't all that far away from me. A day trip. Maybe a long day trip but no big deal. I'd be pleased to see you, but I'll wait until you're well. As to Mike, it sounds bad. I hate to think it but it seems his clock is running out of time. Maybe a trip to see him sooner than later might be in order.

    Your thoughts?

    Barzilia,

Thank you for the information, however I'll pass. Too many needles and too many guesses at this point. So far all good guesses with the exception of my first chemo. That one was very bad.

It would seem that I'm walking a very delicate balance. Palliative treatments seem to have caused my cancer to retreat for the time being. Somehow my immune system must be on high alert and I have no wish to intentionally invite compromise.

My doctors won't go out on a limb on this one. On one hand they see flu as a very serious threat. On the other hand they see anything toying with my immune system as perhaps an equal threat. So... Damned if I do and damned if I don't.

Some might decide differently but I've decided not to allow anything to be injected into my body that isn't directly related to dealing with my cancer. So far this seems to have been the correct decision for me.

I received a flu shot for the first time this year....Flu two out of three years was enough for me to give it a chance.
