I am very pleased. Niece Gabby has decided, wisely I think, not to enlist in the Navy. She is trying to get into Paris Junior College and will go for a nursing degree. Good for her!
She was active in gymnastics and cheerleading for several years, and developed knee problems, for which she had multiple surgeries. When she was thinking about going into military service, Dawnie and I were very concerned that she might blow out a knee in basic and be discharged without benefits. Either that, or they wouldn't even let her in.
The recruiters were all very positive about her getting in, but we all know how they can be. It's all about the body count, and getting that paper signed, and not about what's good for the recruit.
Picture is from Halloween 2009.
She has also been keeping company with a very nice young man. He had been very supportive of her decision to enter the Navy, but I think he is secretly relieved that she has decided not to, and I think maybe Gabby's decision not to enlist was partly due to this developing relationship.
I took her to Paris Junior College to see about getting registered. It was really too late for the Spring semester, but it was good that we went.
We found that she has an "incomplete" on record. She took a dual-credit History course in high school, and didn't finish, so it shows as a failure. The college part of the course was done online, and Gabby's mother failed to pay the Internet Service bill, so Gabby was unable to finish. She will qualify for grants, but not until she re-takes the History course and passes it. And of course, Uncle David gets to pay the full tuition for that course, $255.00. She is getting her paperwork together and will probably take the History course in Summer 1, hoping her grant will come through by Summer 2, or the Fall 2010 semester.
It's kinda nice having a "daughter" since all I ever had were boys. Gabby is 18, and came out of a very chaotic, drama-filled home environment. She seems to really appreciate the peace and quiet of my home, and I am glad to have her here.

I am thankful that I don't have to deal with Spillman any longer! I sent Spillman an email about their product, but I was ignored. I reckon they have their money, and that's good enough.
,,,,looks like this retirement has turned ya into a grumpy ol' man !!!![:D][;)][^]
Yea, I hope he does not fixate on 22lr. Don
We had New World before Spillman, and it had its problems, but it never destroyed my work.
Retirement turned me into a happy man! Happy that I don't have to deal with Spillman, and free to tell the truth about it.
