I'm passing this on...

I looked into the WWP and found that only 63% of funds go to actual veterans' support. That is a little low. I have read that any group not spending at least 80% on the work is not a good place to donate. Now this info. This is what I found, I can't verify any of it. Maybe someone has more/better info?

    They are also anti 2nd.

    See http://clashdaily.com/2012/12/wounded-warrior-project-ceo-confirms-organization-is-anti-gun-and-anti-knife/

I had the chance to talk with Tom and his son about the interview in this article. We will not run charity items for them (even if they would allow it...)

Charity Navigator shows that they only spend 57.7 percent on programs.

It was 63% when I checked a year ago. They are getting worse. Too bad.

I heard something similar recently, but hadn't gotten around to checking it out. Very sad. Thanks for your post.

Sad news on both counts. For so much of what they take to not be going to Veterans ... and top that off with them taking an anti-American position on a Constitutional Right?

    It's a bit weird really.

Is this the same charity that country singer Trace Adkins supports on tv?

This is why my Car Club doesn't give money to them. The support to administration ratio is terrible.

If you are interested in donating to a charity for soldiers, could I humbly mention Fisher House? Sort of the Ronald McDonald House for military hospitals, they provide group living/ meals for the families visiting GIs that are recovering. Rated as one of the 10 best charities in the US. You can also donate Frequent Flyer miles, and some airlines will match your donation.

The Fisher House Foundation program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 10,000 families, and have made available nearly 2.5 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990.

If you are looking for an organization to donate to, or even to just help out with funeral attendance, please consider the Missing in America Project.

They locate, identify, and inter the remains of veterans that have become separated from their families, outlived them, become estranged, whatever the case may be.

They operate on a shoe string, everyone is a volunteer, and they can always use help. Whether it is donating a few bucks, volunteering to go into funeral homes and look at records, or by escorting a veteran to their final resting place, it is all appreciated, and deserved by the vets.

My car club has helped identify a number of remains and reunited vets with family. We have two vets that no family can be located for, so Betty Jean and Sol became part of our family, and we take care of them.

    WWP is a scam.

My wife worked as a contractor and supported them at Ft Bragg. She told me to never give them a dime.

I find it disgusting that folks line their own pockets by exploiting those that have been injured while in the military.

One that is worse than WWP is 'Paralyzed American Veterans'.

This garbage 'charity' has been around since 1946, and spends less than 1/3 of its revenue on it programs for vets.

I was going into Gander Mountain around Christmas some years ago.

There was a table with two young ladies taking donations for Toys-For-Tots. They asked for a donation.... sure, and I bought a toy for 30 dollars and gave it back to them to resell.

The receipt that i received stated that this organization was a paid fund raiser.

They only returned 17% to the organization that hired them.

I don't fault Toys for Tot and was glad to give the donation,
but I do my homework now before I give to any organization. I never give over the phone.

Find well organized and run local rescue missions, teen pregnancy groups, abuse shelters, etc .. give your time and money. It the best thing you will ever do for your self and your family while helping the most needy in your community.

I think the same thing at least here. Them and the state of New York probably have the most non medical type commercials aired here.

I was at the industrial safety supply store some time back. They had a set of tactical gloves for $10 with proceeds going to WWP. I did buy them and they are pretty nice gloves. But other then that I've never donated any money to them.

WWP was founded at the DAV store in Roanoke, here near where I live. Started by three vets with good intentions.
