Why is it so hard to get parts?
I have a 90-year-old Colt 1911 with a replacement barrel. I'd like to get a new COLT barrel. So I called Colt. They said I had to get the barrel from one of their dealers, and they gave me a the numbers to Numrich and Jack First. Numrich said they don't have any. Jack First didn't have any either, but they said they could order them. Great! A month later I get a postcard saying Colt won't sell them a barrel. So I called Colt again. Colt said they can't sell me a barrel and that I had to get it from a dealer. I told them the dealer tried to get one from them but they were told they're unavailable. Hello? They're still making 1911s. They're making new ones, and they're making WWI replica ones, and they're making Series 70, and they're making Series 80. Surely they must have barrels?
Well, I could send them the gun and they could look at it. (Postage paid by me.) Of course there's a charge. Then if they decide to replace the barrel there's a charge. And then I have to pay for it to be shipped back. And then I'll have to pay a dealer to receive it.
It's a freakin' BARREL! It's not a gold nugget dropped from Sam Colt's own *!

If you want the same type of barrel that originally came with your Colt, your going to have to buy a used one. Go to some of the on-line 1911 sites and research the configuration and markings of the barrels the Colts of that era came with.
