What kind of wax did ya use? I just bought a 92 Dakota that doesn't have a scratch, not even in the bed. But the paint has dulled. I'd like to make it look like your "after" picture. (Still be a Dodge, though)

Jim...get a clay bar kit and take it to that Dodge...it will clean it up and help bring some of the shine back.

It was just regular, old Turtle Wax. Nothing special. I figured wash and wax it every 6 years is a good interval.

Try a product called "Nu-Finish", most auto parts stores carry it, comes in an orange bottle, and a money back guarantee at place of purchase.......works GREAT on oxidized finishes...less then $10 a bottle 16 FL OZ.

I did it becasue I had absolutely nothing to do today. I washed the Taurus and dropped it off at the body shop to get the * damage fixed. Then I pulled the blade off of my free push mower, sharpened the blade, and changed the mower's oil. It was only about 3 pm at that point so I figured wash and wax the truck to kill some time. It was a good day.

    This shows two things:

    You can't polish out rust.

No matter how much you polish it, it's still just a Ford.

She was outside with me the entire time running around and barking at people who walked by. She's tired, she had a long day.

When you get back from Guam you should take it to a body shop to get the rust spots repaired.

If you're looking for a good wax, try Meguiars NXT Generation Wax. $20/bottle, but it's the best wax I've EVER used.

That Ford is just about the strongest running old truck I know. It's been driven between Minot, ND and northern WI twice now and I'm not afraid to make that trip in it again if I have to. Yes it's beat up and rough around the edges but she's got a strong engine and a stout drivetrain.

The REAL reason he had to wash and wax it was because the neighbors were threatening to call the General for having an ugly vehicle.

Not worth it. I could buy a 10 year old rust free truck for what it would cost to get the rust fixed. You have to figure a job like that would require tearing it down to the frame and building it back up so it's done properly.

Next weekend I'm going to give my motorcycles a good scrub down since I fixed most of their oil leaks. Maybe I'll wash and wax the Taurus when it gets out of the shop.

Mine's a great car besides the damage caused by the raccoon. It's never been in the shop and I haven't had to do any repairs that weren't self inflicted.

Do yourself and your truck a favor and get some Permatex Extend rust treatment. Your truck will thank you.

Do they still have rust free trucks up there in Dakotaland?

Dad bought a '77 Chevy cab from a guy in Fond du Lac years ago. It came off an indian reservation up in Dakota. Don't ask me which Dakot. They're both the same to me.

Anyway, the fender bolts were cut off with a torch and we spun the studs out by hand. Never could do that with a truck from Illinois. There wasn't a speck of rust on that thing.

Nu-Finish works awesome, and easy just wipe on and off. It also is a good additive to your corn cob media in your tumbler for brass!
