With the introduction of the 348's and 409 engines. Truck engines got the forged steel cranks.

I had a '62 Chevy with a 409. After the second lower end rebuild, I added an 8 quart oil pan and racing oil pump, and she stayed together real well.

Have a friend with a '55 T-bird with a dualquad 409, Chrysler Torqueflight trans, Chrysler rear end. Ran in the 10's in the 70's. He dumped his wife for an OLDER woman. She blew the engine up in the middle of their divorce. He still has the car and the new wife but never rebuilt the 409.
