Wisconsin Dems given sanctuary

Religious leaders offer sanctuary to
Wis. Dems boycotting union bill vote

MADISON, Wis. - Religious leaders in Illinois
and Wisconsin are offering sanctuary to
Wisconsin Democrats as they boycott a vote
on a Republican bill that would strictly curtail
public workers of nearly all their collective
bargaining rights.

A group of Catholic, Jewish and Protestant
leaders say they're on board with the
minority Democrats in the state Senate. The
entire caucus fled the state Capitol on
Wednesday to avoid voting on the bill.

The bill's opponents have staged a massive
protest at the Capitol that has stretched into
its fourth day. Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome
Listecki weighed in on the bill on Wednesday,
saying lawmakers and unions should work
together.

Give them sanctuary? From what? The roving death squads plaguing Wisconsin?

Can't these douches just, you know, seek sanctuary IN THEIR OWN HOMES?

    Disgusting.

They are preventing the system we have ALL agreed to live under, by not leaving, from working. The people of that state elected new leadership to go in and cut the spending that former elected leaders failed to do. The new minority left the state in order to prevent the vote, thus preventing the will of the governed from being advanced, the same as when they were the majority.

Capt Fun has it right, and they should be arrested and charged upon their return.

    Excellent point.....[:D]

The illegal mamacita a few years ago that was fighting to stay in the country also found refuge in a church in Chicago.

Any elected official shirking his responsibilities should be impeached.

Apparently organized religion in America has become a tool of liberalism. With their political activism their tax exempt status should be revoked.

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but to me it appears to essentially the same as a filibuster.

I don't necessarily agree with their position, but the system has checks and balances to keep the "tyranny of the majority" in check.

And your reply is the stock answer people give when they want something to be a partisan insult.

    Bad behavior stains both sides.

I think that their votes should be excluded, and the people who are showing up for work should be allowed to vote on it in the absence of those other people.

I mean, if ordinary citizens can choose to opt out of voting in elections, and everyone else's vote is what decides the outcome, why can't it work the same way in the government?

I could careless about their affiliation, what they are doing is a crime, and they should be arrested, extradicted and put in jail

elections have consequences, you don't commit malfeasance, intentionally not fulfill your duty because you can't win the vote.

I imagine this is an impeachable offense under Wisconsin's Constitution, they should face Impeachment as well as criminal charges

When a tree falls in the forest, how long does it take a Democrat to blame the Republicans?

Before any one call be recalled they have to be in office for one year and one day. Most of these people were just recently elected.

Seems to me that if just one them were to have an unfortunate accident, that the governor can nominate their replacement and get this bill on the road. Then the rest of them can be impeached and thrown in prison.

No time like the present for the "boycotters" to be charged with violation of their oath of office.

Actually, this is NOT an impeachable act (although I think it ought to be) and is a well worn method of doing a fillibuster type act. If they are found in public, or can be reached, they have to vote. If they cannot be "reached" then they can't have a vote.

Personally, it's a cowardly methodology. I'd prefer to face and debate the issue.

my point is this: why do they need sanctuary from 3rd parties? Sanctuary is what one seeks when one is in danger (actual physical danger or under actual physical threat.)

Whether or not them boycotting the legislature is legal or ethical, they shouldn't have to seek "sanctuary" from anyone; they can just go home, to their mother's house, or on a road trip, without fear of actual danger, as opposed to moral or rhetorical recrimination.

    COB answered your question.

If they can be found, they have to vote.

I've heard that recall proceedings have been started against 3 of them already with more on the way. Good throw them out.

As for all the public employees who want to strike the governor should publicly tell them that they need to be at work bright and early the next morning anyone who don't report in will need to get an excuse from a doctor retained by the state. All who are not present or excused are fired.

As for the teachers who took the children to the protests they should be arrested for kidnapping. The doctors who were writing sick slips for protesters should have their medical license permanently revoked.

Cant the Governor or speaker just call for a vote and go ahead with whom ever shows up to vote.

The US congress does it all of the time. That scum bag WV congressman Manchin who replaced Byrd missed two key Obombag care votes during his first two weeks in office. "I was on vacation." so he says. Fact is he is a democrat and was not about to vote against anything dealing with obamacare like he said he would.

and Hell No I did not vote for Joe Manchin.

Parliamentary procedure on this is a quorum is necessary for the vote on the collective bargaining being eliminated for their govt employees, as I understand it. Without the dems, they have no quorum, just a simple majority. They pulling their final ace, in an effort to keep their union buddies happy , you know, "payback" and "vote buying".

Just get one of the legislators still in Madison to switch parties, satisfy quorum requirements and have the vote.
