I have always admired the Bryco/Jennings, Lorcins and High Points. They make wonderful paperweights and can be thrown quite effectively while trying to get to a real gun.

If you are asking about the gun, Ruger KP-89.
If you are asking about the ammo, Winchester 100ct at Wal-Mart for $10.85.

Take a look at the Star FireStar. No longer manufactured, but both one of my Sons and I have had - and still have - several. They are inexpensive and very reliable. Available in high-cap and single stack, they are also available in .40 S&W (my favorite) and .45ACP (my Son's favorite). Blue, or an electorless nickel called "Starvel". They are a high quality Spanish firearm with the 1911 operating system. They can be had for $150 and up.

Although I sold mine I'd agree with Ruger9
The KP-89 was the smoothest, most accurate gun I've fired.
Just a little chunky for me.
    I sold it and bought a different...RUGER.

But I'd sure lust for a Sig P-239 in 9mm. Better yet, in 40S&W.

The CZ 75 series and the Ruger P89 series are both dependable and accurate. However the difference is in the triggers.I thought the trigger in my P89 was fine until I shot my CZ75,now the P89 just sits in the closet.

Like some of the others mentioned, it depends what you are going to use it for. For plinking, get a .22lr they're terribly cheap and you can shoot all day without going broke. For home or personal defense - get a bigger gun! However, if you insist on a 9mm, then I'd second the Kel-tec. They're lightweight, small, and affordable.

The 10mm - either you've got it, or you don't get it...

CZ, Taurus, Firestar ...for the money/quality.
For conceal: Kel-Tec is the smallest 9 I'd trust.
Get into more bucks, then you consider Kahr TK-9, H&K, Sig.

Anyone think Ruger will ever make a "smaller" version of their 9nmm? I have a friend who has the 95 or 93, I forget. It shoots great. But, if it was smaller..............

If you are talking strictly "the most you can get for your money". I would go with any of the Star surplus 9x19 pistols. You can pick them up for undr $150. They are well made and reliable. If you are willing to spend a little more you could get one of the many service weapon trade ins that are available from larger distributors.

    And everything in between.

Thought I'd bump this thread back into action.

With the prices having gone up quite a bit in the last 6 months, much less 5 years, is there any new opinions on the best 9mm for the money?
    (for range & home defense)

I'm close to making my first semi-auto purchase, and have narrowed my choices to a Cougar 8000, a Taurus PT92, or a CZ 75B.
Any opinion/thoughts on these is much appreciated.

sig 239, H and K USP or Beretta 92 fs I am amazed at how cheap you can buy the Beretta used. around 350-400 bucks while they are 6-700 new. the other brands tend to hold their used value better probably because they are not typical LEO service pistols.
the other one that amazes me is the used value of a 4006 smith and wesson, again, well under 400 dollars and a great gun all around (IMO)

Thus far everyone who has shot my Springfield EMP has loved it, 2 folks are buying their own. I'm more of a 45 ACP fan, but I really like the thing.

There are names there that I have not seen posting in quite a while.

I agree with Doug; the Star Firestar is a great little 9mm pistol and can be carried cocked and locked (for those who prefer this)
    [img][/img]StarM43.jpg

Anopther good choice for a DA 9mm would be one of the surplus Walther P-1 pistols that were all over the place a couple of years ago.
    [img][/img]WaltherP1.jpg

You might also look at the Astra A-70
    [img][/img]AstraA70.jpg

Or one of the most overlooked 9mm pistols; the Bulgarian Arcus, which is a copy of the Browning High Power and is of excellent quality

if their manufacture is half as good as it was in the 40's and 50's they would be hard to beat for quality.
for carry, i like my PM9.
emp if you want a 1911 style, but I'm not sure theyre worth the price. I did a trigger job on mine and like it alot.
