ventless gas fireplace won't light

I can't find a website or manual for it online.

The instructions are on a metal plate that's attached with a chain and I've followed them carefully. Still no spark.

Winrich Perfecta Ventless Gas Fireplace model 1800

Could there be some kind of kinetically activated capacitor that's gone bad?

I lighted my Moms last week and it took a good 30 to 45 seconds for the gas to get to the igniter.

Have you tried it that long?

That is exactly what it is. No spark= bad igniter. I am pretty sure you bought it at home depot, lowes or a big box store. If so, they are junk, a nightmare and POS. If not, They should replace the igniter. I have installed hundreds of these and no longer install the ones from the box stores. Almost everyone has an igniter problem. Oakie

PS, if you can, go vented with the next one. Ventless takes the oxygen out of the air and is really unhealthy for ya. They are now illegal to have in a bedroom, in most states. If they are illegal to have in a bedroom, why not in a living room, where people fall asleep on their couches. [:I][B)]

I use a bbq grill lighter on my gas fireplace.

BTW those ventless fireplaces are dangerous, mine is getting replaced with an actual furnace.

    Thanks everyone.

It's in my g/f bedroom. I'm gonna tell her she'll just have to turn the furnace a little.

Ah, excuse me, why turn the furnace up when you are there for "heat"?? [;)][:D][:D][:D]

Perfecta went out of business in the 90's. So it may be hard to find parts for them.

If the Piezo Push Button Igniter has gone bad. You may be able to retrofit a new one. You can find them for grill and stoves about anywhere. If you have a manual one you may even be able to upgrade to a battery powered one.

Look at the one on the fireplace. If it has wires that are plugged into it, you may be able to just buy a new button.

If not. Complete unit can be gotten.

    Sorry for the large pic...

Another option. Upgrade to a AAA Battery powered igniter. If you can fit one into the original space and wire it up.

The ventless gas fireplace puts out so much moisture the water will run down your walls and windows if there's no circulation in the room. We tried installing one back in the 90s and it was a mess. We removed it and went with the vented.

FYI on ours there is an AA battery in the barrel of the push button igniter.

Big + 1 on what Oakie said- CO kills many every year. Witnessed a few tragedy's over my career.

They also deplete oxygen and make the air nasty. When we run the one innthe bar we have to open a window with a fan it it pulling in nice cold air to combat the fireplace.

Make sure that the main ball valve is turned on so that it's getting gas to the burner.
