I have the opportunity to pick up a NIB Marlin 1895G blued 45-70 from a young guy at my base that bought it and never used it about a year ago. Looks pristine and no rust or scratches and is still in the box.
Now I love my 336 30-30 and was curious if anyone has one of the 45-70s and their thoughts on them. They go new around here (when one can find them) for around $420...this kid is asking $250 as he needs the money for other things.
Thanks

Saw one just like that at the Post Falls gun show over the weekend. It was just like that except: it had some very fine porting (appeared to be after market) and it also had the 6 round magazine instead of the 4.
They wanted $740 for it and I passed because I was looking for something else, but now I wish I hadn't.
It was used but looked brand new.
Is that a good deal?

I like this one, minus the rail

I've wanted one of those, only with the grey laminate that matches the stainless....just a cool looking gun
I like the real wood a little better, but I'd take the laminate too.
Not sure what I would hunt with it. Maybe elk at shorter range than I do currently.

I will not even think about buying an non JM marked rifle without being able to hold it in my hands and inspect every detail of it.
They are getting better, but not to the point the old pre2008/2009 models were.
If it was a pre Remington gun that was a good price
I don't know as I didn't know to look. I'm guessing it wasn't.

That is the BL. I saw them at the NRA show in Pittsburgh, the year they came out. I have wanted one since, just in 30-30 since I don't need anything bigger for PA
