A very funny clip from yesteryear.

John Wayne was watching the show, and later contacted the young man to play himself in several of Wayne's movies. I think the last line in it is the funniest...

I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

    Had to look him up:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Gonzalez_Gonzalez

He served in WW2, a wife and three kids, had a good career and John Wayne tried to get him his own TV series. Made it to 80 years old, not bad for anybody.

Plus he made Groucho Marx laugh, now that's pretty darned cool too! [:)]

Curious thing, these three movies, essentially the same story told in different ways. All directed by Howard Hawks.

Rio Bravo, 1959 with John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson.

El Dorado, 1966 with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan.

Rio Lobo, 1970 with John Wayne, Christopher Mitchum and Jack Elam.

John Wayne also did Chisum in 1970, where Pedro had a part as a Mexican rancher.

John Wayne always tried to give work to his friends, people he liked and wanted to help out. Even if it was just extras in the crowd. The Duke did a lot of that sort of thing, quietly, never made a fuss about it.

I vaguely remember my parents watching this original showing when I was five. He was a very good natural actor.

Marjorie Main, the great character actress of the 30's and 40's, befriended him and convinced him to invest in real estate in the San Fernando Valley in the 50's (when it was still farmland.)

He died a very rich man.
