For now at least![:)] Looks like they got caught with their pants down listing the green tip ammo as banned in their guide book. They had to back down due to that and very vocal opposition from gun owners![:D]

    That's good news...for now...

edited to add. I wonder how many folks overpaid in the "panic," and will prices return to the previous norm?

This will do nothing to quell the panic.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

My tin foil conspiracy hat tells me that now suddenly XM855 ammo will be used in some high profile crime against law enforcement. They will get it one way or another....

I thought they might call it off for now. They let it become too big of a story this time.

Next time they will be sneakier.

Is there a color that HASN'T been used on military ammo? I have seen black, blue, green, red, orange and silver, to name a few off the top of my head.

just on the local news so its getting out [:D][:D]

also notice a lot of places now have in it stock today and with a price drop ?? imagine that think they were sitting on it [:D]

More than 80,000 people have commented on the proposal to ban certain types of 5.56 mm, or .223 caliber, ammunition since the agency announced its proposal last month. An ATF spokeswoman, Ginger Colbrun, said the vast majority of comments were critical of the proposal.Objections also came from 291 members of Congress - majorities of both the House and Senate. -

Yet another 2nd Amendment mess created by Ronald Reagan signing into law a bill that singles out inanimate objects to be denied to the citizenry.

H.R.3132 - Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act of 1985.

Passed by both houses, and signed into law by the absatively worst 2nd Amendment President we have had in recent memory.

The sainted RR permanently bans the manufacture or import of select fire and full auto weapons to the citizenry.

The sainted RR permanently bans the manufacture or import of armor defeating handgun ammunition.

Who is the next Reagan the neo-cons will ask. Do they ask that so we know who to defeat soundly in the primaries?

So I've been reading up on this ammo, as I never used it myself. Plain old XM193 and equivalent loads have always been cheaper, so that's what I bought.

From what I've read the SS109 (Belgian idea) and M855 (DoD name for it) never lived up very well to its design goals. Too sensitive to barrel length, loss of velocity under 2500 FPS. Too sensitive to angle of strike, tends to deflect. In a short barrel, or worse the super-short of an AR pistol, the loss in velocity should pretty well defeat its "enhanced penetration" purpose.

Or so said a number of websites talking about this stuff.

So, anybody ever shot it at soft body armor in combat or testing on a range? How'd it do? Barrel length and distance? Striking square-on and off-angle?

Hopefully this won't come up again for awhile - at least until the "stupid voters" elect another Socialist president.

Maybe this was a "wake-up call," though, and some people will finally realize what it means to vote Demorat.

    McManus,
Thanks for giving us a much needed reminder of who our "friends" are.
The vaunted Ronald Reagan signed many gun control bills while in office.
He also granted amnesty to multiple millions of illegal aliens.
    BO has done neither,,,,,, YET!
So, I guess you would have to say, compared to "Ronnie Raygun", BO is the real conservative??
    Arrivederci gigi

That was 30 years ago, and I believe he came to regret both decisions. I don't think the likes of 'bama and his ilk will ever regret their positions to take our firearms - nor ever cease vigorously attempting to take them from us.

I think we'll be far safer under a Republican than a 'rat. I don't remember GWB pushing ammo banning schemes.

    Just a personal opinion. :)

I think the 2nd Amendment is safest under a Democrat President and a GOP Congress. A GOP President, as shown by Reagan and Bush Sr. cannot be trusted, and could drag a GOP Congress along with them.

A GOP Congress will resist almost any plan put forth by a Democrat President.

FWIW, GWB specifically stated on more than one occasion that he would sign a permanent AWB if one was placed upon his desk. If we can take him at his word, it would put him in the same class as Reagan and his father, both of whom signed permanent legislation that limited the citizenry. Something Clinton and Obama did not and have not done.

I am not suggesting that the GOP is worse than the Democrats. I am only suggesting that there really is not a significant difference.

You know, on principle, I of course was dead set against the ban. It exceeded the mandate set forth in the gun control act of 1986, and was just a petulant back door gun control move.

That said, it was ONLY the M855 round that was at issue. EVERYONE in the media said, "Obama trying to ban the bullets for the popular AR-15 rifle!" Uhm, no. He wasn't trying to ban all types of .223 or 5.56 ammo. He was trying to ban one specific loading. Which, in and of itself makes zero sense, as any number of soft points, hollow points, etc. are more dangerous. I think Obama was trying to test the waters to see how great the backlash would be.

That said, misreporting the story was irresponsible.

sxsnuf if you will look back in history the Congress and Senate passed the Amnesty bill and then Reagan signed the bill. It was legal unlike Obama's plan

What if that Dem prez decides to be a dictator - ignoring Congress, as ours is trying to be now? Do you feel safe now? I don't.

And remember the Supreme Court. Most people don't even think about that when they are voting for President. I know the court made a horrible decision on 'bamacare (and may be making another soon with King vs Burwell,) but I sincerely believe if 'bama can replace one more Moderate/Conservative Justice with another Socialist Justice (to make five,)the Second Amendment will be immediately repealed thereafter and America will be lost as a free country (or we will all participate in the second American revolution.)

The 'rats will never give up trying to confiscate our weapons, as shown here: http://thehill.com/regulation/235521-dems-push-atf-to-revive-bullet-ban
