I agree however I also wonder how many would no longer need meds due to mo more processed foods and chemicals and a more active lifestyle?
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Most serious "preppers" or survivalists have their required Prescription Medicine stored. Plus over the counter, antibiotics, first aid, etc. Think food / water is the first concern.

A person can get a 10 months supply of prescription medicine paid for by their "Medicare" insurance if they ask (give a reason) and the pharmacy will get permission. 3 months is NO PROBLEM with medicare or private.

Before medicare, I purchased a 9 months supply from a Canadian Pharmacy used that, while getting the "insurance plan" medicine, rotating and always keeping a 12 month supply to this very day.

Most medicine will expire in one year but factually, most will last longer.

Some medicines can't be stored for long periods or need refrigeration. Luckily don't have that problem.

So, bottom line,, if nothing else, it's easy to keep 90 days of Prescription on hand, one time purchase the first 90 days outside insurance and rotate.

Fact of the matter is the strongest will survive. Sometimes cunning is a good substitute.

My plan has always been to simply raid and overpower the simpleton stockpilers.[:D][:D]
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Some preppers can survive without meds. I take one med for hypothyroid and thats it. I can go without it, I just get headaches at time because of the lower levels of thyroid hormone.

Others could not last a few days without their meds (take those who require insulin or on anti-rejection therapy for transplants). These types I imagine do not plan to be preppers nor do they know just how short their survival will be if a true end of modern world scenario occurs.

You want a good and realistic read about the affects of an EMP attack, read One Second After by Wm Fortschen. It was an eye opener when you think about how quickly pharmacies will be bare and life saving drugs are gone or destroyed by improper storage.

So you're assuming Preppers go through all these "preparations", such as food, water, and ammunition, and FORGET about medications?

I have yet to fall for it.

Pharmaceutical factories comes up with a new drug Xhair for hair on the elbow.

Pharmaceutical salesmen bride Doctors into hocking the new drug for hair on the elbow.

Two days later Pharmaceutical company pays off TV networks to advertise this new hair on elbow drug 20 times an hour MAKE IT A POINT to mention that 1 in 8 people suffer from hair on the elbow and are advised to ask their Doctor about Xhair..

Next thing you know 20,000,000 suffer from hair on the elbow and don't even know it..

98% of the illness in the US is hacked up by a network of people that could care less about actually treating anyone. They just want your money and are getting rich off of the scam.

My 13 year old son is a type 1 diabetic. Although he is very active and is very good about what he eats, he is dependent on humalog and lantus to maintain his sugar levels.

This worries me, we keep a good supply of both lantus and humalog on hand, and could probably hold out 3 months by my estimation. I am somewhat confident I could secure more of each within that time frame, but there are no guarantees of course.

I have no doubt things would get ugly quick regarding medications. It is part of my prepping plan that needs work.

We have a hematology and oncology lab here at the office building.

    They are closed on Friday's.

A UPS driver wanted to leave a package for them and I called the office manager who informed me that it had to be refrigerated and was worth "100's of thousands of dollars"

I offered to use my key and place it in the suite, UPS guy said either sign or he had to go, she said if he did the drugs would be no good.

She had me sign for them and place them in the fridge while she was on the way to "break down" the packaging and store properly.

Either she was embellishing the value or they have a crappy process.
You would think something worth that much would have had a back up plan.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Most folks on RX meds will survive.
High blood pressure, arthritis, many cardiac conditions, asthma, and lots of diabetes patients can and do survive through weeks of no meds already; modification of lifestyle being the primary reason.
Of course, folks on specialty meds could decline rapidly, but nobody gets out of this world alive.
Nitro-based gunpowder could substitute for nitrostat, other items could be substituted for other meds; it's all in how you perceive pharmaceuticals.
Toilet paper (bogwad, for you urbanites), will become an essential commodity, as will fuel. If you're stuck with walking everywhere; your heart, lungs & muscles will become stronger with time.
Real prepping includes thinking seriously about possible future scenarios, avoiding or overcoming personal foibles is a decent start.
As an example; many .22s in short pieces of copper tubing can create a "claymore", if the need arises to defend or deny access temporarily.
It's not going to be Mayberry for quite awhile if the balloon goes up.

Be sure to ask your doctor if Nexium is right for you.

I had heartburn so I ask my doctor about Nexium.

See your Doctor if you experience one or more reactions from taking Nexium.

    Headache or abdominal pain
Symptoms of a low magnesium blood level
    Irregular heartbeat
    Muscle spasms
    Seizures
    Diarrhea
    Cramping
    Fever
    Blood/mucus in stool
    Weakness
    Sore tongue
    Numbness/tingling of the hands/feet
    Rash
    Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
    Severe dizziness
    Trouble breathing
    Signs of kidney problems

So I grab some, take it and feel dizzy.

Experiencing dizziness? Ask your doctor about Antivert.

Stop using Antvert if you experience any adverse side effects from using this product.

    Antivert may cause..

    Cough
    difficulty swallowing
    dizziness
    drowsiness
    fast heartbeat
    hives
    itching
puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
    shortness of breath
    tightness in the chest
    unusual tiredness or weakness

Wait a second Mr. Pill Pusher I thought you said Antvert is suppose to prevent dizziness..

In reality, when you try to comprehend all of the many scenario's that could happen in a SHTF situation, the best prep would strongly take history into account.

Stuff like the Jewish in hiding during WWII or those poor souls defending the Alamo.

I've always taken the last bullet for myself tactic very seriously.
