Last week, in order to satisfy the anti truckers on the forum I dealt out $2000 for a set of 4 drive tires thus eliminating 4 recaps and I only need to replace 4 more to have this truck capless!
Normally I do not idle the truck when sleeping, huge thick blankets for wintertime and I can handle heat in the summer to a certain degree. Last night it was warm and sticky humid, even with the windows down I just could not fall asleep. So finally deciding to break one of my rules I fired the truck up and cranked the AC. 2 hours later I'm awake and soaked in sweat, I mean really soaked! Tossed my pillows in the trash and have my sheets in the washer right now and will buy pillows when I get to WallyWorld later.
Turns out the AC compressor took a crap and you mechanics know what happens when a compressor pukes, debris in the accumulator and orfice tubes!!
When I woke up the vents were puking out hot moist air, I was sleeping in a humidifying oven!! Without even lookin at the time after finding the problem I did a quick walkaround and took off, windows down and throttle mashed trying to cool off. Made it here to the truckstop (trucker trap) and told them to fix it, don't BS me because I'm also a mechanic who is AC certified! Put on a new compressor, new accumulator (this truck has no TEVs) and orifce tubes after flushing with the citrus smelling AC flush and recharge.
Here goes another $1000 [V]
Somedays you eat the bear, other days the bear eats you. Such is trucking!!

Race is going good, just a few bumps but I'm going to finish the race,,,,,,,, then POW!! Someone put a wall in front of me!
He didn't say much till there was a break in the whining we were doing and then,
Boys he says, that's truckin and it ain't never gonna change. You just do what you can and let the rough end drag.
It took me awhile to figure out what he meant but, I finally got it.
Hope for the best, expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed.
What I said ain't got much to do with the Pete's AC going south but, seems that the older I get the more things from my past come to the forefront of my mind and just need sayin.
Miles, I told the story before about Paul so Imm not going to type it again but his words ring true, "sometimes ya gotta eat poop and smile"
Yep, I reckon so..
If I where out on the road in todays world, I'd have one of those auxiliary generators on my truck. They run on diesel right out of the tank, your cool in the summer, warm in the winter. They are very fuel efficient, and your not putting idle hours on your engine.
I have a friend that had trucks leased to Gordon, they pay a fuel bonus for good millage. The first truck he bought with the aux generator, paid for the generator in the first year, in fuel bonus' alone. Let alone the saved idle hours on the engine.
The very first auxiliary plants I ever saw where on North American Van Lines trucks out of Great Falls Montana, the company was called Alaska Power, and was owned by Bob Bents. They hauled military household goods to Alaska. He ran all cab overs with 1693 Cat engines, they had 4 cylinder water cooled Wisconsin engines for the auxiliary. The cooling system was plumbed right into the truck engine's system, kept the water warm all the time. Being furniture haulers, weight was not a big factor for them. Not idling those 1693's was also a big factor. Now, the new systems that PACAR has only weigh 150 - 200 pounds.
There are many city's that have no idle laws for big trucks now, I'm pretty sure Portland Oregon is one of them.
