Russia says no thanks to AKs

I was listening to NPR or was it BBC where the Russian military said they're not going to order a new shippment of AKs. Basically they're looking to make replacement to their AKs.

I don't see why? I mean just slap some picatinny rails up front and they're good for another 100 years [:D].

All I can find is something called the AK-200.

The reason the Russian military isn't ordering anymore AK's is because they already have several hundred thousand more than they know what to do with. Their arsenals are overflowing with rifles they don't need.

If I recall correctly, Russia isn't planning on buying any more AK's until at least 2014.

Heard here, that it's the modern/current version of AK47/AK74 that they won't be ordering more off - because they have plenty of those.

But again, there's seemingly a new version underway... and they'll be holding the orders until that one is released.

I just caught a tail end of it and I guess they mentioned the 2014. As for them not knowing what to do with them? That's just crazy talk. Shoot 'em or sell 'em.

used AKs will go up in price
or new ones Will Be Cheaper as they flood the World[^]
