NOOOOO! Bank letter, breached accounts, HASSLE!

I got a letter saying someone stole some processed checks in a "brazen" theft at one of their branches.....and my account is one of the potentially affected accounts.

I swear....this is just no fun at all. Their letter says the "suggest I leave the account open and I monitor it"....which sounds like a risk. Plus, the whole looming idea that something MIGHT happen is something I cannot just push out of my mind.

(If you haven't figured it out yet....I'm not one to let a worry of any kind just fade off into the distance without giving it my full, undying, attention for as long as possible.)

So, my day just took a turn and now I get to go sort out exactly what the plan is to deal with this.

They are....I'm hoping they have sorted out the debit cards for the business accounts. The standard accounts you can get a card in the lobby and it takes a few minutes.....but for some reason on the business accounts it takes longer and they have to mail them to you.

I have so much mess tied to this account, the cc payments, GB account, shipping with USPS and other carriers. Its going to take a bit to fix it.

If you only leave the minimum amount needed to 'keep the account active' it doesn't seem there would be a large risk.

Your bank dropped the ball on this one (as did mine 2 years ago). I raised Holy Hades until it was straightened out. The indifference on the bank staff's part was a real eye opener.

They seem to forget it is easier to KEEP a customer than it is to find a new one.

Are you sure that the letter you received was from your bank?

When I got to my closest branch the gal in the customer service office had no idea anything was going on. She was very concerned that it was some sort of fishing ordeal or scam. She called a couple people and nobody had been informed of any breach. Finally, someone from "legal" confirmed that the letter was valid.

We got busy getting the new account going.....but I have more than a dozen checks that are outstanding. I also have two credit card batches that haven't posted yet. It will take three days to switch the card processing over to the new account. I have no clue how many things I'm forgetting, but its going to be a while before its all done.

The most frustrating thing right now is the fact that it might be two weeks before I get the checks for the new checking account.
