Looking for a three point tiller 5 or 6' used is OK, new ones are 50% more than five years ago. Anybody know of a good place in Ohio or WV for that kind of equipment??

Hello Bruce be careful make sure chain drive does not have slack in the chains and tines are not worn both can cost half the price of a new Tiller to replace. There are very FEW that show up ready to work in any of our 4 John Deere stores I work at one of. Karl

If you are not in a hurry spring equipment auctions should be coming up soon. you might find a deal at one of those.

You might start looking at estate sales. I used a walk behind for over 10 years and the older I got the more it beat me up. I bought a new 3 point about 10 years ago and it was a great investment.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

Better look close to home first. Gas prices will run the cost up quick if you drive very far to pick one up. Son bought a used Ford 5' to work the strips when they were doing commercial flowers. Very heavy duty unit but it takes a good sized tractor to handle it.

They go pretty high at auctions. If I found a use one I would look it over good or you could get a plow and disk and do the same thing.

Bought a 68" one new at a fall farm auction for 750 dollar. Used it for hydroseeding a few yards. Sold it to a Preacher man to plant food for the needy for 300 dollar. Piece had little hours on it. It was heavy duty and tore the ground up.

Where are located at in WV or OH?

Did know of a 5' King Kutter in Fort Spring (South of Lewisburg on Rt63 in Greenbrier county WV) that was suppose to be in good shape for $1,100.

Gear driven King Kutters are about the best that you can get. And you can buy them new for around $1500 or less for a Forward rotaing tines and around $2K for a CRT model.

$1,575 New 6' tiller at Turner Tractor Sales in Tollesboro, Kentucky (Not far from Ashland and Maryville KY on the AA Highway)

Make sure the ground speed on your tractor is slow enough or yur wasting your money. For example all the N fords are too fast.

I have a 5' King Kutter with gear drive. I've used the heck out of it, and it still works as good as new. I bought mine back in 2001 on sale for $899, but they are a lot higher now.

I don't want to sell my tiller, but I also have a 5' metal tined rake (from TSC) that I would sell if you have a use for it, as I don't use it any more.

bruce, there is a place up near toledo or clevland that imports chinese and korean tractors, and equipment. I was told it was something like a gov't subsidy here, over there they only use them 3-5 years, then get new ones. google used farm equipment. I will see if I can get the name my neighbor used to go up and buy the small 20hp tractors paint them and make a grand or so reselling them. He got me a 54" inch tiller once, I know it was an odd size , but ofsetting it to one side and it would cover the tire tracks when you tilled. it was chain drive but a funny puke blue color no name to be found anywhere one it. I painted it ford blue and used to about 3 years. I paid 4450-500 for it and sold it for $650 when I moved. figured at that price anything over a year and I was even. If I remember right, we figured it was a Yanmar tiller from the shape and looks of the housing. worked fine for me, did everything I needed it to.

can't find the info, must have gotten thrown out when we moved, google gray tractor or gray tractor tillers you will get more info. If you are going to use it every day I would say no, but the average person only used them 3-4 times a year and they will last forever if you have a basic repair knowlegde and welding experience. you may have to cut/weld shorten the toplink and driveshaft but if you can weld and grind it is no big deal compared to the price savings $500 dollar range for 5ft tiller versus 1500 for name brand.
