Vacation Next Week

My daughter's last day of 6th grade is tomorrow.

I don't know if it's sunk in that, during her first week of Summer Break, Dad is gonna hanging around the house.[}:)]

I'm hoping to get some work out of her on the rabbit hutch.

Then, maybe she'll agree to go to the scrap yard with me, so I can finish a couple of Steam Punk projects I'm working on. I used to LOVE to accompany my Pop on his scrounging expeditions. He knew the grumpiest old men in the dingiest old shops all over Northeastern Colorado and it was always a magnificent learning experience for me.

I don't fool myself into thinking my daughter will be as enthusiastic as I was, but we'll see.

Welp. She wasn't much help on the hutch, but I'm not gonna blame her. All there was to do was hang around in the hot back yard and wait for me to ask for a tool. That woulda bored the bejeebers out of me, too.

Saturday, though, we went to a friend's house out in Stoneham, a tiny town on the prairie. I needed to help him run conduit and wiring for his shop and Darling Daughter wanted to come along.

When we got there, I asked my buddy if he had anything a 12-year-old girl would like to do. He looked at her all poker faced and said, "Nope. Out here, you have to find your own fun." Then he tossed her the keys to his Gator and told her to slow down going around corners.

He has a good handle on 12-year-olds. We'd see her every half hour or so when she'd check in for a bottle of water and some shade. She slept the 25 miles back to Sterling.

I've got two weeks to finish the Rabbit Condo. I have about two hours of work to do on it.

sounds like you may have to be buying her a 4-wheeler/side by side colonel..........
