Corn Monkey Hibernation.......

...is coming to it's end in many regions. A few troops have been spotted in harvested corn fields scounging for what food may be left over. This is a dangerous time as they are very hungry and their principal food supplies are quite scarce. Watch out for your dogs and cats as they are easy prey especially as the Corn Monkeys travel in large troops on feeding runs.

Yup, diminished food supplies sometimes causes them to swarm and search for new grazing areas, leaving a wake of destruction behind them. Still remember the infamous Missouri "Corn Monkey Epidemic of 2003", looked like a tornado had gone through the area, houses were ruined, livestock skeletonized, even car tires were eaten right off the rims [xx(]

They haven't been as bad this year. Not sure why but it might be "Climate Change" caused unseasonably warm weather. Not that there are seasons to begin with.

All year long they are a problem in the Jungle areas,, especially Leticia and the Amazon river in the depertamento Amazonas http://www.lonelyplanet.com/colombia/amazon-basin/leticia

Lucky no problems in the cities or rural areas, cute,, but vermin. Other parts of the world not so lucky.

Actually, that is not an ear of corn that corn monkey is holding...it is his reproductive organ...I'm guessing that one has lots of "lady" friends

Droptop if you are going to sell that illusion, you need to at least use a New World monkey for Amazonia, not a Old World Macaque.[}:)]

Some folks think it is only a North American problem,, but you are correct,, this is one of those "pests" ,, in a Rural area near Jakarta.

Sorry if the monkey has the illusion of self gratification. Hope it doesn't get deleted by the "pc" guys.

I killed this one in 2003.
I was unarmed at the time. Remember, we didn't know 2003 was going to turn out that way until it was all over and done. So don't go hard on me. No one knew it would turn out that way.

Beat it to death with a short piece of electrical conduit that was handy when it charged.
Thank God it was solo, before they had formed troupes.

The taxidermist didn't get the skull repaired quite right. (As anyone who's encountered one would know [:D])
And I've been using it for the last several years as a decoy to draw the troupes from the corn fields when the thaw starts and they are more aggressive than cautious.
So it's a little bit worse for the wear.
And the color is a bit "off". But I think you can still make out some of the stripes.

This one was a real stud breeder. I'm glad I took him out of the population.

Owen. As an aside, I'm sorry to post on this topic.
I know you still miss Old Blue.
He was a good dog. And missed by many.

I have spent many sleepless nights out there guarding my, comparatively small, garden. The racoons have appeared but much less so these crazy monkeys. I still haven't seen any even thou told they are this far North.

Yes, I do still miss "Ole Blue". He was a good dog and did not deserve such a grotesque death. Vengence has been mine many
    times over but not over.

Bigoutside, your taxidermist did a horrible job on your specimen, looks like he used a cat skull form and tried to wrap the corn monkey hide around it. Doesn't even show the bulldog-esque musculature of the corn monkey's jaws. Those little buzzards are like snapping turtles with fur [xx(]
