There's a key on your keyboard that is labeled "Prnt Scrn" or some derivation of "Print Screen". Simply push that button and it will capture the screen. Then paste into a document.

You should have a key on your keyboard which is labeled "Print Scrn/SysPiq". Mine is on the top row above the "Insert" key.

Press the "Print Scrn" key, then open Paint and under "Edit" click on "Paste".

Then you can save it to disk.

Hold down the "ALT" key first, then press print screen to just get the window that you are working on. This make it so you don't need to crop the image.

    papernicker.

    It should work.

    1. Press the "Prnt Scrn" key.

    2. Open Paint.

    3. Under edit (at top of page), click "Paste".

That should show an exact copy of what was on your screen when you pressed the "Prnt Scrn" key.

If that doesn't work, the only thing I can think of to try is hit the "Prnt Scrn" key twice. [:D]

Sorry I don't enough to give better help.

papernicker, If you are opening "Paint" first, you might be taking a screen shot of a blank "Print" page which could be confusing the issue.

You can paste it into any page that will accept a bitmap file. I just use Paint because it's the easiest for me.

I see from Microsoft and some forum of theirs, that if you use a wireless mouse, it doesnt work. So I unplugged it and still nothing. Then M.S.site said to download some fix on the site, but I didnt find it. So I downloaded their latest stuff, which may include it, I doubt that will do anything, either, and it took like over an hour. More like two hours.

papernicker, can you do a regular copy and paste?

I don't understand why it wouldn't work. A print screen or screen shot is nothing but a copy and paste with a different name.

When you hit the "PRNT SCRN" key, all that does is copy what is on the screen to the clipboard. After that the computer just treats it like any other copy and paste.

you can download a better program from download.com, it will capture the entire screen clock and all, or capture a defined area, print it or save it as a jpg

I use Gadwin Printscreen. You can download it here:
    http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/
Go to the right of the page and click on Gadwin PrintScreen 4.3 under the heading Latest releases.

Ctrl + Print Screen will capture the entire screen, task bar and clock included.

Alt + Print Screen will capture just the current window.

    It doesn't get much easier.

This is a link to Microsoft Help and Support:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924961

It says if you restart your computer, it might fix the problem.

    Worth a try.

Hey, thanks for that. At least it was easy for the OP. I had been to the MS site and nothing helped, including their latest service pac 3. I have never made a screen shot and thought this might be the time to figure it out, but I gave up. Nothing works to get a page into Paint. I have, however, bought a registry cleaner, last year. This gives me a little more speed, on start-up. It deleted like 1500 items, including the ability to go in and edit my photos. It gives me some dialog box that cant be moved or closed. I have a feeling it messed this up too.I guess I will will continue to copy onto wordpad and place into numbered folders that I have waiting. I have heard of a clipboard it that wordpad?
