WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) - An arson investigation is underway at a home in Weaverville after a Friday morning fire.
Neighbors say a woman lived alone in the house on West Fox Chase Road.
A repair company was there Friday afternoon boarding up the home that is now unlivable.
And just three miles away, a home on Monnie Jones Road went up in flames Thursday afternoon.
The Asheville-* Arson Task Force is investigating both fires.
There has been no word as to whether these two fires are connected.

Click on link to see pics of house. It is the nice brick house on the hill not the trailer.
I have spent hundreds of hours working on this house. I installed the ridge vent, I built the kitchen counter tops, etc etc

Bummer. Had a fire a couple of years ago in a mobile home that I had recently did a rehab on. Still not sure if fire was electrical due to a plug in air freshiner or if the tennant set it. Spent about a year rehabing it the second time. Hate it when that crap happens.

    UPDATE

    108%20W.Fox%20Front_zpsiboreab8.jpg
    Picture taken three years ago

It has taken me a while to put this story together.
This was a real nice house in a suburban neighborhood north side of Asheville. Paid off. Worth about $250K.

Shirley is/was renting it to a 45 year old gal, she has been there 2 years. Lives by herself. Shirley has described the gal as "misanthropic" and "a nut."
This gal is from up north somewhere, she was raised Jewish. Some years ago she converted to Hindu.

About every six months she takes a two or three week trip to India, I guess to visit the Hindoo shrines.
So, off she went a few days before Christmas, she got back on Jan 14.
She had a guy coming over every day to feed the cat. He had a key to the house.
A week before the fire, another guy, with agreement by Hindu lady, came over, and got the cat and took it to his own house to care for it.

On the morning of Friday 13, the house was broken in to. The Hindu gal had a safe in the basement that had a collection of gold coins, rare silver coins, jewelry, and cash worth $148K. The safe was over in the corner of the basement, had a cloth completely over it so it was concealed. Had a little statue setting on top of it. It just looked like a little end table with a statue on top of it.
The average burglar would not have found this safe. Hindu gal told Shirley it would take 2 strong men to lift this safe. Hindu gal told the cops she had no renter's insurance. Of course Shirley has full insurance on the house itself.

The burglars got the safe and lit the house on fire. The fire was arson. It started in the master bedroom closet. At 8:30 the morning of the 13th a passer by saw the smoke, and called 911.
The entire house has suffered severe damage. Insurance guy estimates repair cost $152K.
The closet floor is burned right through. Ten feet of the hallway is burned right through. Five of the 2x10 joists in the basement are burned right in two.
Half of the house is black, charred and burned. The other half of the house is brown from the massive smoke and heat. A hundred percent of the interior of the house is damaged and it stinks!

Now there is a giant green dumpster in the driveway. Repair work starts Monday morning and, thank God, I will not be involved.

the hindu lady will be ok unless in her next life she comes back as a cow. she may want to move to India since they are worshipped there, otherwise she'll end up at a Wendy's near you.[}:)][:D]

this is the reason I put cement blocks in my safe and the "goods" are in an oil can on a shelf in garrage.

I told my kids that when I die they better not throw anything away w/o looking in it first even if it looks sealed.

wonder why the "guy" couldn't get the combo out of the cat? a little kibble and mine will "tell" you anything you want to know.

on a side..... why is the house valued so high? a 1800sf ranch here in northern Greenville county is 175-200 with 2-3 acres. what is the sf? I take it the basement was finished out? is it the location?

the 21 acres behind me is $200k and been for sale for 6-8 months. it's land locked, no frontage, utilities, septic tank, or stream, creek, etc. and the dirt drive is 150-200 yards long so running your water and electric would be very pricey. all wooded but that ain't much these days. half pine - half HW.

Asheville is nice but too many hippies.

and btw, if you are a hindu and have $150k in your home safe, then I don't think you are very commited to it, do you?[:o)][;)]

Asheville has the costliest real estate in the state.
This house is 1,800 square feet. Three br two bath.
Full basement with a two car garage. Finished den in basement.
    One half acre lot.

The location is great, it is in a really nice and normally quiet neighborhood, just 7 minutes from downtown Asheville. This is the biggest crime to ever hit this neighborhood, there have been a few car burglaries, smash and grab but that is about all.

Someone knew. I wonder if it's a case of follow the cat, or someone else that knew her.

Poor planing to have a safe that can be carried away with the goodies in it. No renters insurance with any amount of money involved is just plain stupid.

Renters insurance is some of the cheapest insurance you can get.

Her policy should include lost income while rebuilding.

Who keeps that kind of cash where it can walk away... and even moreso tells someone... I call bs inside job
Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.
