Had a great day out yesterday...I hit the range, did some horse trading and ended up with enough cash to get a nice zoom lens (150-500mm) End of the model year. two different rebates and a little squeezing on my part got it a decent price. This is from the first group of Pics I shot with it....Now if those eagles will show up today I can really try it out !!!!!!!!

It is a Sigma. I compared it with other lenses and could not find enough difference to justify twice the price (for now that is [;))

I looked at spotting scopes but decided that would be too cumbersome for dragging out with me on hikes etc. But I will likely get one in the future if nothing else to watch the wildlife on the farm and for hunting season....

High power binos are easier on your eyes than a spotting scope for hunting. With continuous use scope will give you eye strain, even if you are good at keeping the off eye open.

    Look at 20X binos.

Very nice. A good set of binos are way better for every day use.

I'm reading a book on David Lean, the director.

And he said that working with lenses and filters is crucial to one's development as a cameraman.

    God job!

Agreed on the Binos He Dog and cranky2. I am considering buying a decent spotting scope mainly to use for long range photography.

Also, anything over about 300mm really requires stabilization to take a quality picture even in broad daylight. The shutter speed is going to be so slow at that focal length camera shake is a real problem.

This is why you see those giant lenses on sports photographer's cameras. Those are very fast long focal length lenses, some costing $5-10,000 each!

Yes I dusted off the good tripod this morning....even with the
stabilization feature I need a little more help.
