Opinions needed....Taurus vs. Charter Arms

Ok....I have been saving up and am getting a 22lr/mag combo revolver. I have narrowed it down to either the Taurus 992 or the Charter Arms 62240 Pathfinder. I know that Heritage and Ruger make a revolver like this, but Im interested in something with a more modern feel.
This pistol will be used for plinking, the occasional varmit, and introducing others to pistol shooting, not for selfdefense (thats what my S&W centerfire is for). All opinions welcomed as well as personal experince and reasons for your opinions. Thanks folks[:)]

I have handled many of each brand over the years and it seems like the Charter Arms have looser tolerances than the Taurus.
Good luck. Don
i stopped selling taurus revolvers after they were arriving pre-broke from the factory[B)]
I've owned 2 charter arms snub 38spl, one I sold to a gunsmith when the timing started to slip, the other has been sitting in my safe for several years waiting to be turned in to a $50 police buy back program [xx(]
go with the ruger~!
+1.....Ruger is the way to go
For what its worth if you want a .22 and .22 mag. Get a ruger/
Get 2 cylnders. , and no trouble.
"Pre-broke",is that broken before being broke?[:D]quote:Originally posted by fordsix

Cant speak of Charter, but I've had a few Taurus' autos with pretty good results.

Like I said before the ruger is not the pistol for me, I would like something with a modern feel and that has a swing out cylinder. Both the Taurus and the Charter Arms come with dual cylinders.

Has anyone noticed a dramatic difference between the performance of the 6 inch barrel vs. the 4? I looked up the numbers, but honestly they dont mean a whole lot to me, I was wondering if anyone has had any varmit or pest shoots to put them into perspective for me?
I will try to speak of length vs power vs ... In a .22 the longer you can go with the length the better your accuracy. Think about sight radius . So if you can tote a longer gun then you can probably be more accurate. Out of a pistol you can shoot pretty much under 50 yd. I have a friend that has a walking cane and a 6 in .22 and he actually marrys them together with the walking stick over his shoulder (and slightly improvised 'stock') AND he is pretty accurate.
