They hope to position the bill the same way this time - not as a Second Amendment issue, but as a public-health effort to safeguard the eardrums of the nation's 55 million gun owners. They even named it the Hearing Protection Act. It would end treating silencers as the same category as machine guns and grenades, thus eliminating a $200 tax and a nine-month approval process.
"It's about safety," Trump Jr. explained in a September video interview with the founder of SilencerCo, a Utah silencer manufacturer. "It's a health issue, frankly."
Great idea.
What could be more 'pro-gun' than a bill that implies non-suppressed firearms are a public health hazard?

Get ready for the suppresser shortage of 2017
oil filter, fuel filter, and mag light shortage, but its for the children [;)]
its not rocket science, but i do see many Darwin candidates screwing this up in many ways, obstructing barrels, backyard/basement testing etc

Yep, it's not what it seems, people. I don't give one damn about some "suppressor". Trump needs to rescue the 2nd. We'll see.

I would think Jr. is well intentioned, HPD, but just tone deaf to what he is actually saying.
While I don't see a compelling 2nd Amendment argument for suppressors, there is obviously a 10th Amendment argument, and probably a 9th Amendment argument.
A public safety argument will do more harm than good, IMO. If it becomes law, one can only imagine how it will be twisted to attempt to impose public health based restrictions on shooting ranges, and potentially even firearms sales in general.
Jr. actually states something to the effect that OSHA would never allow the noise levels found with firearms in any other industry.
IMO, this is on a par with the push for a Federal concealed carry reciprocity law, which Jr. also supports. Be careful what you ask for, because it may not be what you want if and when you get it.

Tell me when you drive to the state capitol. Need directions?

I didn't think gun safety was a public health issue...

I knew you would eventually see the light.
