What Diameter Round Balls are best in this gun? Have got a box of Hornady's somewhere but can't find em. Thanks.

+1 on the 454..thats all I use,,cuts a nice ring when you seat it..never had a cylinder chain fire in 40 years on cap and ball shooting

Track of the wolf sells cast led balls .454 for $10.80 per 100. They also have the greased felt patches to put in front of them(less messy than grease) they sell caps too, In fact they have just about anything you need for a BP gun.

This is what I shoot in my 1860 colt over 25gr of 3f.

Just buy the conversion cylinder for it and shoot .45 long colts[:D]

That's why I want a Walker replica. You can get a conversion cylinder that uses .460 S&W brass (aka .45-60-250/ .45 Brimstone).

Well, the conversion cylinder is expensive but it is a beautiful thing.
You can shoot your old revolver, just crank out 6 or a dozen shots, and not have to clean it.

Been shooting a couple cylinders through my BP revolvers (2 Pietta 1860's and 1 Pietta 1858) everyday so far w/ Black Powder. Getting so I can hit my 25yd gong with them.


Did try out my R&D 5 shot 45 Colt cylinder in one of my 1860's works pretty good.
