I have to admit to bashing RIAs in favor of Colts, Kimber, Wilsons et al. Well, I'm here to tell you that the RIA that I bought is a tack driver. It might be ugly, but it sure shoots well. We put it in a Ransom Rest and it grouped 2" at 50 yards with Federal 185 gr match ammo (red box).
It appears to be a "GI" model. It doesn't have a beaver tail grip safty, ambi thumb safties nor an extented slide release. But I'm sure I can fix that, I've got a Dremel tool. It has the strangest rear sight I've never heard about. It looks like a Bomar but it isn't. I've read about Millet and Novak and BoMar. Maybe Ellison is a cheap Asian copy? Also the front sight sticks up so high that I keep snagging it on my BVDs when I practice my "quick draw". I'm thinking I can just grind that sucker down. Who needs a front sight anyway? I think I saw a full length guide rod that had a laser inside. That seems a better way to go. I've heard about Metal Injection Molding or MIM but what the heck is NM? This thing has NM stamped all over it. Does anyone know what these letters mean? "New Molding" perhaps?
It also a funky grey/black color. Do you think it will hurt it's value if I have it chomed? Maybe Duracoat would be better?
The best part is, I got this pistol for a song and a dance. The original owner bought it as a "rebuild" (I'm thinking it was a factory return). He showed me the original bill of sale for $69.00
Because it was used, he let me have it for $150.oo Did I do ok? or did I get taken?

You will not hurt the value by having the finish redone. I know several people who has had them cromed and duracoated (if you look you can find brand new duracoated ones too).
It sounds like you have the Tactical model sights on it. Does it look like a standard Novac cut groove for the sights?
I'm sure you will enjoy the hell out of that gun.[:D]
