I got dehydrated Monday working on fence and general chores on a warm sunny day. Even though I drank over a gallon and a half of tea and water I did not pee until late evening. It was dark colored urine.

Tuesday all day my right foot was feeling weird. Late Tuesday night I awoke in real pain. It was a freaking gout attack in my ankle that I did not catch in time. I've been taking Indomethicin to break the attack since then. I though I had it beat this afternoon.

I awoke at 1:47 am this morning in bad pain having to eat another vicoden to take the edge off and take another indomethicin to hopefully break the back of the attack.

I need to get stuff done, I don't have time to lay around and wait for the severe pain to subside. Gout hurts like hell and really puts a cramp in any plans you may have.

OK.....Vicoden is kicking in, I'm going back to bed. Gout sucks.

Didn't I read somewhere that cherries will stop gout very quickly? Give it a try.

Drink more water out there, if you don't have to go you aren't drinkin enough.

Beeramid is right. You need more water.

When I'm working outside, I can easily go through 2+ gallons in 8 hours. Sometimes even more, if it is 110F, like it was today!

If you aren't peeing, you aren't drinking enough water! Don't drink tea, either. Does nothing for you, except make your kidneys work harder.

There are many things that can cause dehydration, the most common are vomiting, diarrhea, blood loss, malnutrition, and plain old failure to replenish liquids lost from sweating and urination (not drinking enough water). You want to retain the fluid not flow through you.

When a person becomes dehydrated they have also lost electrolytes so it is very important to replenish them along the water. The type of electrolytes needed for rehydration are sodium and potassium salts usually found in sports drinks like Gatorade and pediatric formulas like Pedialite. Electrolytes are needed for electro-chemical reactions within cells. A lack of electrolytes in the body can interfere with the chemical reactions needed for healthy cell operation and is known as water intoxication. This can become a serious condition and has lead to death in extreme cases.

If a person is showing minor symptoms give them plenty of water and let them drink it very slowly, in small sips. Electrolytes are also important to replace. Electrolytes can be readily had from Gatorade or Pedialite. They are also found in salty foods but eating any food while dehydrated will only dehydrate the body more since fluids are required for digestion. If Gatorade or Pedialite are not available, slowly replenish the bodies liquids with water and follow that up after symptoms have subsided with a small salty snack or a very light meal.

Hope that you're feeling better now.

Old military saying- "If you ain't peeing clear, you ain't drinking enuff!" Alochol and caffiene are diuretics- put your kidneys in a higher gear, and generate heat from digesting alcohol. I am diabetic, so the suagr in Gator-ade is out for me, but there are several sports drinks with low/no sugar. All else fails, water, with a touch of lemon juice, touch of salt. That's the sodium and potassium you lost sweating.

I just want to add something here.
The secret is not to rehydrate it's to hydrate.
Drink water BEFORE going outside, as much as you can, and then drink water a regular intervals whether you are thirsty or not.
Keep your Powder dry and your Musket well oiled.

Sounds like you are running high levels of uric acid also. You need to be treating the underlying problem. Vicoden has minimal anti inflamatory effect it just masks some of the pain, and in my experience not very well. Wear good shoes. I am on a daily dose of allopurinol and drink cherry juice 2-3 times a week. I dont remember the last attack its been so long.

Armed with all of this GB knowlege you should not be complaining anymore. [:o)]

I second the Allopurinol thing. I used to take it daily but now I take a couple of times a week and then daily at even the first hint of gout. That stuff is BAD!
