No not the guy who tried to attack a Scientology church the other day... The real deal about to become Saints? cool
TOKYO (AP) -- Tens of thousands have attended a beatification
ceremony for 188 Japanese martyrs who centuries ago were tortured
and murdered but refused to renounce their Christian faith.
An estimated 30,000 worshippers packed a large open-air baseball
stadium in Nagasaki for Monday's ceremony, the first of its kind in
Japan. Beatification bestows recognition from the Roman Catholic
Church that is one step short of sainthood.
The martyrs included samurai warriors, women and children killed
for their beliefs in the 1600s.
Organizers say the ceremony was both a celebration and a show of
strength for Christianity in Japan, where Buddhism and Shintoism
are dominant. Only 1 percent of Japanese are Christians, but Japan
now has its first Catholic prime minister in Taro Aso.

People who are so holy they are already in heaven (without the bother of dying) are typically termed saints. All "saint" means is "holy"
Acclaimed and Canonized saints...well...this is more or less the way to get sainthood recognized by all Christians. Now I'm sure I'll have someone cite chapter and verse on how wrong I am- I said "more or less", folks. In the general sense, any catholic who dies and goes to heaven is a saint- but that does not gaurantee canonization, by a country mile
...and how can I summon them for aid in my struggle?
I'm glad you asked
